  • Patent number: 8461259
Abstract: The invention relates to a binder for producing materials based on wood chips and/or wood fibers. The aim of the invention is to design a binder which is used for producing and gluing materials based on wood chips and/or wood fibers, contains natural protein components, significantly reduces or even eliminates the drawbacks of the prior art, and can be economically produced and used. Said aim is achieved by a binder which is used for materials based on wood chips and/or wood fibers, comprises an aldehyde-based condensation resin and other additives, and is characterized in that the binder comprises a water-soluble reactive additive containing a peptide/amino acid mixture without moieties of water-insoluble and high-viscosity proteins. The invention also relates to a method for producing said binder as well as a molded article.

  • Publication number: 20100310867
Abstract: A water dilutable binder resin for use in an inorganic fiber material; wherein the binder resin is prepared by reacting at least the following components in any order: (a) proteinaceous material which is substantially soluble in water at 20° C. and has a viscosity of <50 mPa*s for a 25 wt % aqueous solution, (b) an aromatic hydroxyl compound, and (c) an aldehyde, and wherein the water dilutable binder resin has a property of having a viscosity of <100 mPa*s when measured at a concentration of 50 wt % at 20° C. During curing, the resin thus produced gives lower phenol emissions. Also, the formaldehyde and ammonia emissions are dramatically lower when compared to conventional resins.

  • Publication number: 20100279137
Abstract: Resin compositions (A) and (B) are described: wherein resin composition (A) comprises a naturally occurring component or derivative thereof comprising protein, an aromatic hydroxyl compound-aldehyde resin and an amino resin, wherein the naturally occurring component or derivative thereof is chemically bound to the aromatic hydroxyl compound-aldehyde resin to form an ncPF resin and the naturally occurring component or derivative thereof is optionally chemically bound to the amino resin; wherein resin composition (B) comprises a condensation product of a naturally occurring component or derivative thereof, an aromatic hydroxyl compound-aldehyde resin and at least 20 wt % of urea based on the total mass of the resin composition, wherein at least 50 wt % of the naturally occurring component or derivative thereof is chemically bound directly or indirectly to the aromatic hydroxyl compound-aldehyde resin (ncPF), and wherein the naturally occurring component or derivative thereof comprises protein.

  • Publication number: 20100233475
Abstract: Low formaldehyde emission wood based panels are described. These wood based panels have an outer surface layer comprised of a resin composition comprising a naturally occurring component or derivative thereof which is chemically bound to an aromatic hydroxyl compound-aldehyde resin (ncPF). The advantages of having an outer surface layer of the resin composition comprising ncPF, is that the outer surface layer can act as a surface sealer to reduce migration of components from the core of the wood based panel to the surface. The outer surface layer is pleasing to the consumer because it forms light colored faces on the wood based panel. It is also a superior surface for after treatment, such as for example, painting, when compared to amino or phenol resins. In addition, the outer surface layer comprising the inventive resin composition comprising ncPF can lend added fire-retardancy to the wood based panel.

  • Publication number: 20070158022
Abstract: The invention concerns a wood material body, a post-shapeable wood material body and processes for the production of such wood material bodies. The wood material body has one or more layers of strands wetted with a binding agent system. The binding agent system has one or more thermosettingly hardening components and contains a first thermosettingly curing binding agent. The strands wetted with the binding agent system are pressed in a first stage under first temperature and pressure conditions which do not allow complete but only partial curing of the first thermosetting binding agent. The post-shapeable wood material body produced in that way is pressed in a second stage to a predetermined shape under temperature and pressure conditions which allow final curing of the first thermosetting binding agent.
