  • Patent number: 5131681
Abstract: A restraining system for knee protection in a motor vehicle having a safety belt system includes an element which deforms plastically upon impact of a vehicle occupant's knees. The element can be transferred by means of a servo drive from a comfortable remote-from-the-knee position into a securable, restraining close-to-the-knee position. The restraining system permits the largest degree of freedom of movement for the vehicle occupant given specific peripheral conditions or prevents the vehicle occupants slipping away towards the foot space of the vehicle. The signal for transferring the knee protection into its close-to-the-knee position in the driving mode occurs by a device triggered in the event of the non-use of a three-point safety belt system.

  • Patent number: 5048863
Abstract: An anti-collision cushion is disclosed for the occupants of a motor vehicle. Known anti-collision cushions are constructed with a central part which is connected to two side parts of equal size. A tearing fold which reduces the volume capacity, and which is formed by a rip seam, is provided on the surface of the central part. In the deployment phase an expansion occurs with high velocities in the region of the side parts, which may result in injuries to the occupant in some circumstances. In the novel anti-collision cushion the rip seams connect the connecting seams which are contiguous in the region of the tearing fold between the central part and the side parts. A reduction of the expansion and of the expansion velocity, particularly in the region of the side parts, is thereby achieved.

  • Patent number: 5031929
Abstract: A safety device for motor vehicles is in the form of an air bag located on the driver side and on the front-seat passenger side to prevent a vehicle occupant from colliding with front interior parts of the passenger compartments. The two filled air bags overlap one another in the middle region of the vehicle land, as seen in a top view, are each designed with a mutual bearing face extending at an angle relative to a transverse axis of the vehicle, thereby preventing an occupant from slipping through between the two air bags.

  • Patent number: 5018761
Abstract: A safety device in the form of an airbag for motor vehicles is disclosed wherein, from a specified vehicle deceleration onwards, the airbag is located inflated in front of a vehicle occupant. The airbag has outlet openings in its cover which permit the gas volume to be partially forced out, the airbag resting with a support surface against a curved windscreen surface and having on its opposite side an impact surface for the vehicle occupant when inflated. The impact surface is approximately aligned in the vehicle transverse direction. The outlet openings have an enlarged opening cross-section for the emergence of gas near to a greatest curvature region of the windscreen surface in relation to a vehicle transverse axis. As a result of this enlarged opening cross-section, the airbag is purposefully more strongly compressed in this region on being impacted by a vehicle occupant.

  • Patent number: 4811517
Abstract: A vehicle door or body section, especially for a passenger motor vehicle with a door body or body section made essentially of an outer and of an inner body panel and with a window arranged above the same which essentially consists of an approximately rectangularly shaped vertically displaceable side window and an adjoining approximately triangularly shaped window part, whereby for purposes of opening the window the side window and the window part can be lowered completely into the door body or body section in that the window part is pivotal within the area of its corner opposite the side window about an axis arranged approximately perpendicularly to its window plane; the side window and window part extend thereby in a common plane and the side window is provided within the area of its upper corner facing the window part with an inclination in such a manner that in the lowered condition of the side window and of the window part, the front edge of the window part extends adjacent the inclination at a distance w
