  • Patent number: 5357909
Abstract: In an arrangement for protecting a cooling system of an internal combustion engine from excessive pressure which cooling system includes a coolant container with a filler mouthpiece with a pressure operated valve mounted on an insert received in the mouthpiece so as to normally close the filler mouthpiece, the mouthpiece has a ventilation opening providing for communication between a gas volume in the coolant container and the filler mouthpiece and including a flow control element which is automatically closed when the coolant container is being filled to permit filling of the container only to the lower end of the mouthpiece extending into the coolant container but is opened by the insert introduced into the filler mouthpiece when the filler mouthpiece is closed. The insert also includes a valve arrangement for controlling the coolant system pressure and various conditions.

  • Patent number: 5163506
Abstract: A cooling water expansion tank having a level-fixing device which prevents cooling water from running out when the filling pipe is opened after driving operation and when filling the expansion tank. The level-fixing device has a positive pressure valve which is located in the vent conduit and is closed during filling. The filling pipe is provided with an overflow edge which is at least at the same height as the cooling water level at maximum expansion height.

  • Patent number: 5135049
Abstract: A venting arrangement for a cooling circuit of an internal combustion engine, having a vent line which connects a radiator to a top section of an expansion tank located at a higher level with regard to the top of the radiator. In order to avoid trapping of air inside the vent line, a vent valve in the form of a flap or diaphragm valve is installed at the highest point of the vent line, via which vent valve the trapped air can escape during travelling operation and during filling. By the arrangement of the vent valve inside the expansion tank, the cooling water expanding during running of the engine and discharging via the vent valve remains in the expansion tank.

  • Patent number: 5088453
Abstract: A delivery-valve unit is provided on a compensating tank in the cooling circuit of an internal-combustion engine. Individual relief valves inside a receiving housing arranged horizontally in a cover of the compensating tank are additionally surrounded by valve housings which are snapped together. The sealing surfaces of the relief valves are uncoupled from the walls of the compensating tank. In the event of dimensional changes in the compensating tank, this arrangement prevents both deformations of the sealing surfaces occurring as a result of a water-level-induced pressure rise and leaks at the relief valves.

  • Patent number: 5038723
Abstract: A screening device for a heat exchanger which is arranged in an air duct of a vehicle and the air exit area of which is covered partially by an air duct cross-section tapered downstream of the heat exchanger and partially by an air duct wall subjected to dynamic pressure. The screening device consists exclusively of a flap-type blind, the screening area of which extends only over the partial area of the heat exchanger lying opposite the tapered cross-section of the air duct and by the lateral terminating flap of which an overflow channel between the duct wall and the flap-type blind is also screened off.

  • Patent number: 4965555
Abstract: In a device for monitoring the liquid level in a tank, utilizing a reed switch projecting into the tank in an internally cylindrical hollow rod and a float provided with a permanent magnet and guided on the hollow rod, the reed switch is constructed as an independent exchangeable part introducible into the hollow rod with an accurate fit and with a small assembly outlay. The slide-in part has three radially resilient abutment zones distributed uniformly around the circumference. In order to accurately introduce the slide-in part into the hollow rod, with a minimum of force, three axial guide grooves associated with the resilient abutment zones are formed radially outwards in the inner envelope surface of the hollow rod. In order to achieve the final accurate fit, the slide-in part, introduced completely into the hollow rod, is rotated until the resilient abutment zones are located in regions between the guide grooves of the hollow rod.

  • Patent number: 4938303
Abstract: The cooling air circulation system at the front end of a motor vehicle has several separate air ducts which are arranged one on top of the other and in which a water cooler and a supplementary cooler are position. Improved cooling is achieved by the cooling air of an upper and central air duct being conveyed to the water cooler, in front of which are mounted in the upper air duct only a condenser of an air-conditioning system and an electric fan, and by a lower air duct, in which the supplementary cooler is arranged, leading into an opening in front of the water cooler on the underside of the front end.

  • Patent number: 4917145
Abstract: A valve device is disclosed for an aeration and air evacuation pipe leading away from a motor fuel tank. In a known valve device for aerating and evacuating air from a motor fuel tank, a positive pressure valve is provided, the closing force of which is generated by a compression spring which is braced against its valve element. This closing force generally corresponds to the positive pressure value of a water column of 300 to 400 mm. Such a positive pressure valve is therefore unsuitable for aeration and air evacuation devices in which the required positive pressure value is very low, only approximately 80 mm WG for example, for safety and functional considerations, and correct functioning of the valve element of the positive pressure valve is required to be ensured even at low temperatures.

  • Patent number: 4842006
Abstract: A dashpot for fuel tanks is designed such that gas bubbles produced in the latter can no longer cause troublesome noises within the fuel tank. This is achieved by means of a gas separation space which is separated from the dashpot intake chamber, into which a fuel return line opens and to the upper wall of which a degassing line discharging above the maxiumum fuel level in the fuel tank is connected.

Abstract: A vent arrangement for fuel tanks of motor vehicles which includes an expansion tank, with which is connected an expansion line extending horizontally in the vehicle transverse direction which includes two line sections extending in mutually opposite directions, of which one terminates in the atmosphere and prevents an outflow of fuel in the turned-over head position of the fuel tank.

  • Patent number: 4697612
Abstract: A valve arrangement for ventilating and venting fuel tanks for motor vehicles which includes a vacuum valve, an excess pressure valve as well as a safety valve that interrupts the connection of the interior of the tank with the atmosphere beginning with a predetermined position of the valve arrangement deviating from the installed position. The safety valve includes a mass member displaceably arranged in the housing of the valve arrangement whose weight force is directed opposite the closing force of the excess pressure valve in the normal position of the valve arrangement and which beginning with a predetermined and subsequently continuing housing displacement acts increasingly on the valve closure member.

  • Patent number: 4667920
Abstract: An elastic support system is disclosed for a fuel system of motor vehicles of the type equipped with a mixture-compressing internal-combustion engine and an electrically driven fuel pump, a fuel filter and an accumulator, in which case at least the fuel pump is to be arranged in proximity of the tank at the underbody. A roller vane pump is used as the fuel pump which operates with heavy pulsations and therefore, in addition to its mechanically caused operating noises, also generates pulsation noises. It therefore must be disconnected or isolated from the underbody with respect to vibrations. For this purpose, it is suggested by the invention to provide, between the fuel pump and a suspension member fastened at the underbody of the motor vehicle, a connecting element that is held at the fuel pump and can be suspended at the suspension member.
