  • Patent number: 5014368
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and apparatus for monitoring liquids ischarged intermittently from a discharge receptacle having a siphon. The liquids originate in a facility in which personnel work with open radioactive substances. Measurements are made of the radioactive charge of discharged liquids in the region of the siphon of each discharge receptacle to prevent contamination of the discharge path into the drainage system. If a radioactive limit value of radiation is detected which is above a specific threshold, discharge of the liquid into the drainage network is prevented. The discharge receptacles are then emptied individually and upwardly.

  • Patent number: 4861462
Abstract: A screen unit for a screening machine comprises a screen layer which is bonded to a screen frame spanning an opening thereof. The screen layer is uniformly heated before such bonding is effected so that cooling after bonding generates a tension in the screen layer to allow it to have a trampoline or drumhead vibratile action. The tension is maintained by a reinforcing frame embedded in the frame body.

  • Patent number: 4825981
Abstract: An axially split brake disk that includes two brake bands that form a brake ring and are interconnected by ribs. The brake disk further includes two brake ring halves that are separated by concentric and radially extending seams of division, in each of which one of the brake ring halves is provided with a projection that extends in a concentric direction, while the other brake ring half is provided with a corresponding U-shaped recess that accommodates the projection. The width of the projection is less than the width of the brake ring, as measured in a radial direction. The projection of the one brake ring half, as well as that portion of the other brake ring half in which the recess is provided, are provided with corresponding radially extending bores for receiving a holding mechanism, such as a sleeve-like or rod-like member, that is provided with pin-like elements for preventing the holding mechanism from shifting in a radial direction relative to the brake ring halves.

  • Patent number: 4670136
Abstract: The invention relates to a screen surfacing with exchangeable screen elements fastened juxtaposed, which are fastened on a load-bearing substructure. A plastic profile (2) which engages under the edges of at least two mutually adjacent screen elements (14, 15) is fastened on the load-bearing substructure (1) in the region in which two adjacent screen elements (14, 15) adjoin mutually. A second, upper profile (8) is fastened detachably over this plastic profile (2), and a screen element (14, 15) is retained and clamped between the first and second profile on each of two sides.

  • Patent number: 4576420
Abstract: A linear bearing arrangement for guiding a carriage in a straight line along a guide rail is provided with at least one endless course of balls (3) disposed between the carriage (2) and the guide rail (1). The guide rail has at least one ball race (4) associated with the load-bearing balls of the ball course and extending in the longitudinal direction of the rail. At least one elongated track carrier element (8), having at least one ball race (16), as well as at least one diversion and return track for the unloaded balls are disposed in the interior of the carriage. In order to assure great accuracy in the guidance of the carriage on the guide rail as well as to assure simple assembly and convenient replacement of worn parts, the arrangement is selected such that the track carrier element (8) is combined into one subassembly with diversion (9) and return elements (10,10a,11,11a) containing the diversion and return track; a plate (12) holds the balls (3) facing the rail (11) captive.

  • Patent number: 4552416
Abstract: A bearing arrangement for guiding a carriage in a straight line along a guide rail has four endless courses of balls disposed between the guide rail and the carriage, and the guide rail is provided with four parallel ball races associated with the load-bearing balls of the ball courses. The balls are held in elongated ball bearing assemblies. The ball races are located in the respective transitional zones between two adjacent shanks, located one above the other, of the substantially double-T-shaped or cruciform guide rail.In order to increase the flexural strength of the guide rail and to provide a manner of securing it in a tilt-free manner, the arrangment is selected such that on at least one side the guide rail has two integral, longitudinal parallel ribs, which define a longitudinal groove in which securing devices for the guide rail and/or for elements insertable into the longitudinal groove are disposed, fitting seats between the ball bearing assemblies and the carriage insure accurate guidance.

  • Patent number: 4315816
Abstract: An arcuate shaped magnetic system is housed in a fixed cryostat within a rotating drum. A slurry containing magnetizable particles is charged into an operating area defined by the magnetic system at the lower part of the drum and magnetic particles adhering to the drum are removed as the drum rotates the same to a discharge location. The cryostat has an outer wall which conforms to the shape of the drum and houses a sector-shaped refrigeration tank. The refrigeration tank has an arcuate wall section conforming to the shapes of the cryostat wall and the drum and is positioned in close proximity to the outer cryostat wall only in the operating area in order to minimize inward heat transfer.

  • Patent number: 4272365
Abstract: A magnetic separator, in particular a drum separator, includes a magnetic system having a plurality of magnets. Each of the magnets produces an open field directed toward a separation zone which, in a drum separator, extends axially of the drum outside of the surface of the drum. The magnets may include conductive coils, preferably superconducting coils, which are traversed in the same direction by current and which include an iron-free core. The average center-to-center spacing of the coils is a maximum of 25 times the spacing between the coils and the separating zone and is preferably in the range of 15:1 to 10:1. The coils are elliptical and have major and minor axes which decrease from the outermost coil winding to the innermost coil winding, with the distances between the windings being greater along the major axes than along the minor axes. This is a continuation of application Ser. No. 843,737, filed Oct. 19, 1977, now abandoned.
