  • Patent number: 4617903
Abstract: A diesel engine with an injection pump coordinated to each cylinder. The pump piston (13) of each injection pump is actuated by a cam (15) of a camshaft (12) by way of a roller tappet (14). Each roller tappet (14) is arranged in an individual tappet guide member (16) which is axially adjustably supported by means of two coaxial cylindrical guide pins (17, 18) in corresponding openings (19, 20) of the cylinder crankcase (11). By means of this arrangement, the position between cam (15) and roller tappet (14) and therewith the delivery start of the injection pump is adjustable by displacement of the tappet guide member (16). A universal applicability for diesel engines with different cylinder numbers is achieved by the individual arrangement of the tappet guide members (16), whereby additionally a simple manufacture and assembly is realized.

  • Patent number: 4593662
Abstract: An air flow in the combustion space which swirls or rotates about the cylinder longitudinal axis is produced for the fine distribution of the fuel by a correspondingly constructed inlet channel controlled by two inlet valves in a supercharged four-cycle internal combustion engine with direct fuel injection. With a low air mass flow, the rotary movement of the air in the combustion space is only weak and therefore prone to disturbance. An improvement is achieved by a change of the air flow in the inlet channel system. The valve actuation contains, for that purpose, an adjusting mechanism consisting of a piston-cylinder-unit fed with pressure oil, which effects in one operating function an automatic valve clearance compensation and which enables in a second operating function together with a controllable closure device in the pressure oil feed line a stoppage of one of the two inlet valves actuated in unison by the valve actuation.

  • Patent number: 4206607
Abstract: A gas dynamic wave machine or gas dynamic pressure exchanger for a supercharged internal combustion engine with the wave machine including a rotor or cell wheel driven by an independent drive arrangement. A charging air line is interposed between the gas dynamic wave machine and the respective cylinders of the internal combustion engine with the charging air line being selectively opened and closed in dependence upon an operative state of the internal combustion engine. A device is provided for delaying an opening of the charging air line for a predetermined time interval following a starting operation of the internal combustion engine. The independent drive arrangement for the wave machine is constructed as a hydrostatic drive device.

  • Patent number: 4205527
Abstract: An exhaust manifold for a supercharged internal combustion engine which includes inner pipes carrying the exhaust gases from the engine and a water-cooled housing surrounding the inner pipes at a predetermined spacing. The housing is mounted to exhaust gas flanges of the internal combustion engine by way of water-cooled intermediate flanges. The housing includes an opening on a side thereof facing away from the engine with the opening extending approximately over the entire length of the housing and being closable in a gas-tight fashion by a cover. The housing is bolted to the exhaust gas flanges from the inside thereof and the inner pipes are formed of individual pipe segments assembled with plug connections with the length of the various pipe segments corresponding approximately to the cylinder spacing of the internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 4121550
Abstract: A liquid-cooled cylinder head for an internal combustion engine which is provided with inlet and exhaust channels disposed opposite one another in the cylinder head longitudinal direction, with a central chamber and with several inlet bores for the cooling liquid in the cylinder head bottom; two ring-shaped cooling channels are thereby provided surrounding the central chamber and disposed one above the other which are connected with each other by two overflow apertures disposed opposite one another in the cylinder head longitudinal direction so that the cooling liquid is forced to flow through the ring-shaped cooling channels one after the other in the circumferential direction in relation to the central chamber; two bores which are located opposite one another in the cylinder head cross direction in proximity of the cylinder head bottom thereby connect the lower ring-shaped channel with two cooling channels that are located along the longitudinal sides of the cylinder head and are fed by two inlet bores each

  • Patent number: 4083333
Abstract: A fluid-cooled cylinder head construction for an internal combustion engine having two valves for inlet and two valves for exhaust with an injection nozzle or prechamber being arranged centrally of the valve chambers of the inlet and exhaust valves and with cooling fluid entry bores being arranged at the cylinder head circumference along a bottom wall of the cylinder head. Two cooling fluid chambers are provided and arranged one above the other with bores providing the communication between the upper and lower cooling fluid chambers. The lower cooling fluid chamber includes two outer chambers each of which is provided with a set of cooling fluid entry bores with a canal or channel being formed by the injection nozzle or prechamber in a central area which is connected with the outer chambers by two cooling canals arranged between the valve chambers of the inlet valves and the exhaust valves.

  • Patent number: 4059080
Abstract: A ventilating arrangement for a compartment of an internal combustion engine which arrangement includes an air guiding housing separated from the engine compartment by a wall with a finned annular cooling arrangement being disposed in the housing for drawing-in ambient cooling air and directing at least a portion of the drawn-in-air into the engine compartment. The wall separating the air guiding housing from the engine compartment is provided with an air discharge opening with the annular cooler being provided with a thinless sector adjacent the air discharge opening. A charging air cooler arrangement is disposed adjacent the air discharge opening with an oil cooler arrangement being disposed on a downstream side of the charging air cooler. A fuel cooler arrangement may be interposed between the air discharge opening and the charging air cooler to cool the fuel supplied to the internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 4018053
Abstract: A method and apparatus for operating an internal combustion engine equipped with an exhaust gas turbo-supercharger and with a combustion chamber which supplies additional gas to the exhaust gas turbine; during idling of the internal combustion engine, the combustion chamber is operated at such partial output that with lowest possible fuel consumption of the combustion chamber, an increased starting-supercharged air-pressure, as necessary for as favorable a load acceptance behavior as possible, will establish itself in the supercharged air lines whereas during the acceleration of the internal combustion engine, the output of the combustion chamber is increased for a rapid increase of the supercharged air pressure in the supercharged air line in order to attain a spontaneous load acceptance behavior of the internal combustion engine; during a further increase of the supercharged air pressure in the supercharged air line, initiated by the increasing exhaust gas supply with an increasing internal combustion engin
