Patent number: 8689858Abstract: A soldered cooler block, especially for a charge air cooler/coolant cooler, is constructed in a packet-type manner. Cooling channels for a liquid coolant are arranged in the cooler block in a crossways manner in first layers, and gas channels for a gas which is to be cooled are arranged in a crossways manner in second layers. The cooling channels are respectively formed by two wall areas which are arranged at a distance and by intermediate strips and connection strips that include groove profiles.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 2004Date of Patent: April 8, 2014Assignee: Behr Industry GmbH & Co. Patent number: 6688292Abstract: A charge air cooler for internal-combustion engines, having at least two cooling circulations which are guided through heat exchanger blocks which are connected behind one another in the flow direction of the air and have different coolant temperatures. At least the heat transfer block provided as the first heat transfer block in the flow direction of the air is produced of a more erosion-resistant and temperature-stable material than the heat transfer block which fallow and is situated in la high-temperature coolant circuit in which the coolant temperature is selected to be as high as possible.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 2000Date of Patent: February 10, 2004Assignee: Behr Industrietechnik GmbH & Co.Inventors: Wolfgang Ruppel, Günther Schmalzried

Patent number: 6651494Abstract: A highly dependable process and device for monitoring wear for a holding brake is performed via an electronically controlled brake test. A shaft which is drivable by a motor can be braked by the holding brake. A reference angular position which is to be traveled by the motor during the brake test and which deviates from the current actual angular position of the motor is preset along with a maximum limit torque to be applied by the motor during the brake test are preset for the motor. During the brake test, the actual angular position of the shaft is monitored to determine whether the shaft rotates. The existence of wear in the holding brake is evidenced by rotation of the shaft during the brake test.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 2000Date of Patent: November 25, 2003Assignee: Mammesmann AGInventors: Thomas Herterich, Wolfgang Rüppel, Eberhard Schemm

Patent number: 6039112Abstract: A plate-type heat exchanger for oil/coolant coolers on heat exchange media, as a rule, flow non-uniformly through known plate-type heat exchanger whose hollow chambers are provided with metal turbulence inserts because of the arrangement of these turbulence inserts. For increasing the heat exchange capacity, it is provided to divide the turbulence insert into sections in which a different alignment of rolled metal turbulence sheets takes place in each case. The sections are divided with respect to one another by separating cuts and, because of the different arrangement of their corrugations, have different flow resistances in sections for the flowing-through medium. As a result of this further development, it is possible to achieve a uniform flow in the hollow chambers.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1998Date of Patent: March 21, 2000Assignee: Behr Industrietechnik GmbH & Co.Inventors: Wolfgang Ruppel, Guenther Schmalzried

Patent number: 6035928Abstract: A fin-tube block and method of making a fin tube block for heat exchangers is disclosed. Tubes provided for the through-flow of the coolant are manufactured as adjacent channels in an extruded section with a plate shape and then stacked on one another, alternating with corrugated ribs and additional extruded sections in a packet assembly and then soldered.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1997Date of Patent: March 14, 2000Assignee: Behr Industrietechnik GmbH & Co.Inventors: Wolfgang Ruppel, Gunther Schmalzried, Rolf Sieber

Patent number: 6019169Abstract: Finned-tube blocks of charge air coolers of stacked construction are provided with end strips forming a tube bottom. Side surfaces of the end strips adjoining the coolant ducts are configured as exterior surfaces of lips projecting in a direction of the corrugated fins, the tips of these lips not touching the corrugated fins. The end strip cross-section, however, uniformly increases toward the side facing away from the corrugated fins. This further development leads to a considerable reduction of thermal induced tension peaks and therefore contributes to lengthening the useful life of charge air coolers provided with such finned-tube blocks.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1997Date of Patent: February 1, 2000Assignee: Behr Industrietechnik GmbH & Co.Inventors: Wolfgang Ruppel, Gunther Schmalzried

Patent number: 5845701Abstract: A fin-tube block for a heat exchanger and method of making same are disclosed. The thermal stress on fin-tube blocks of charge air coolers is considerable in the vicinity of the side parts, which can be attributed among other things to the rapid heating of the fin-shaped corrugated ribs and the comparatively slow warming of the side parts. The outermost corrugated rib layer abutting the side parts, opposite to the charge air flow, is displaced forward over the intake edge of the fin-tube block into the intake area for the charge air formed in the side parts and water tanks. In this way, more rapid heating of the side parts can be achieved.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1997Date of Patent: December 8, 1998Assignee: Behr Industrietechnik GmbH & Co.Inventors: Wolfgang Ruppel, Gunther Schmalzried, Rolf Sieber

Patent number: 4412641Abstract: A device for desoldering electronic components from circuit boards has a soldering nozzle which produces a solder wave that is directed from below the circuit board against the component to be desoldered; thereby dissolving previous solder bonds. The component can then be lifted out from above and suction is applied from below to the now-opened bores of the circuit board, to remove residual solder from them. A new component can then be installed, using the same equipment.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1981Date of Patent: November 1, 1983Assignee: Ersa Ernst Sachs GmbH & Co. Patent number: 4348611Abstract: A pyroelectric or ferroelectric sensing element consists of a substrate with a thin layer of sodium nitrite. Electrodes may be applied to both sides of the sodium nitrite layer, or, alternatively, only one electrode may be used. In one embodiment, an array of electrodes is applied to one side of a continuous sodium nitrite layer, while the other side has a continuous electrode. In another embodiment, the sodium nitrite layer consists of separate portions, each interposed between one electrode of an electrode array and either the substrate or a second, continuous electrode.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1980Date of Patent: September 7, 1982Inventors: Wolfgang Ruppel, Ullrich Hetzler, Horst Vogt, Peter Wurfel

Patent number: 4259365Abstract: Sodium nitrite in liquid form is deposited on a substrate and allowed to crystallize thereby forming a thin layer on the substrate. The substrate is either dipped into a solution containing sodium nitrite or into sodium nitrite in the molten state and then pulled out again. Subsequent drying or cooling of the wetted substrate top surface causes the crystalline film to form. Alternatively, sodium nitrite in a liquid state is applied to the top surface of the substrate and the substrate is rotated to assure an even distribution of the sodium nitrite. Again, drying or cooling causes the crystalline layer to form. The so manufactured unit is shown as part of a pyroelectric radiation detector, as image receiver in a television camera tube and as the storage element in a field effect transistor arrangement.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1978Date of Patent: March 31, 1981Inventors: Wolfgang Ruppel, Ullrich Hetzler, Horst Vogt, Peter Wurfel
