  • Patent number: 6326589
Abstract: A method for treating materials with plasma-inducing high-energy radiation, especially laser radiation, where an area of vapor capillaries (13) of a work piece (10) is observed with a depth definition detecting device over the entire thickness of the work piece and time-dependent measurement of plasma radiation intensity is carried out. In order to accurately monitor the quality of material treatment, the method is implemented in such a way that the momentary plasma intensities are measured at no less than two measurement points which are parallel to an axis (11) of inducing radiation (12). Predetermined capillary parameters are assigned to the measured plasma intensities and control of the material treatment is conducted depending on the capillary geometric parameters.

  • Publication number: 20010041873
Abstract: A connector for use in peritoneal dialysis, includes a base body having a first tube for attachment of a container for dialysis solution, and a second tube for attachment of a peritoneal catheter. Positioned in a passageway between the first tube and the second tube is a closure piece which so interacts with an actuator that an operation of the actuator causes the closure piece to move in a linear direction from a first position into a second position in which the fluid flow between the first tube and the second tube is closed while the first tube is sealed off.

  • Publication number: 20010039303
Abstract: Thermoplastic starch compositions formed by converting native starch or starch derivatives into thermoplastic starch by at least one hydrophobic biodegradable polymer that functions as a plasticizer for starch. The hydrophobic biodegradable polymer may be a polymer selected from the following list: an aliphatic polyester, a copolyester with aliphatic and aromatic blocks, a polyester amide, a polyester urethane, a polyethylene oxide polymer and/or a polyglycol, and/or mixtures of these. When the starch, such as in particular native starch or derivatives thereof, is mixed in the melt with the hydrophobic biodegradable polymer as a plasticizer or swelling agent, to homogenize the mixture, the water content is reduced to less than about 5% by weight based on the weight of the mixture.

  • Publication number: 20010029934
Abstract: A control unit (50) makes a single control signal available for driving the through-flow control valves (TEV1, TEV2) (51, 52). Through-flow valve (TEV2) has a larger maximum through flow than through-flow control valve (TEV1). A delay circuit is indicated by the phantom outline (52′) and is mounted at the valve stage TEV2 (52). The delay circuit includes an electric delay element (53) with the aid of which the original control signal is delayed in time by an amount &Dgr;t1 relative to the control signal of control valve (TEV1). The resulting delayed signal is supplied to an AND-gate (54) together with the original control signal. Accordingly, a control signal is present at the output of the AND-gate for the control valve (TEV2). The time delay makes possible the exclusive activation of the through-flow control valve (TEV1) (51) at a low pulse duty factors. In this way, a high small quantity meterability is achieved.

  • Patent number: 6059543
Abstract: Known tank systems have an adsorption filter in order to accept degassing constituents of the fuel in a fuel tank. Such tank systems have to be tested for leaks and a pump appliance is provided for this purpose. The pump appliance is fitted to a ventilation conduit of the adsorption filter in order to supply a defined volume to the tank system so that an increase in pressure in the tank system is effected. In order to determine whether the tank system is pressure-tight, ample time is left after the pressure build-up in order that, if pressure decays, the conclusion can be drawn that there is a leak. The pump appliance according to the invention possesses an electromagnetic valve which has a vacuum connection connected to an induction pipe of an internal combustion engine in order to adjust, alternately, vacuum and ambient pressure in a pump space so that the pressure forces move a pump diaphragm in order to pump air into a ventilation conduit of an adsorption filter.

  • Patent number: 5992396
Abstract: A tank venting system for motor vehicles, having an internal combustion engine supplied from a fuel tank. A filter housing with an adsorption filter, and an air inlet and an air outlet that can be connected to a venting neck of the fuel tank. An air pump device for error diagnosis, which is integrated with a pump housing that has a pump inlet and a pump outlet. To attain a compact design of the tank venting system that is economical in terms of installation space, the pump housing is mounted with the pump outlet oriented coaxially to the air inlet on the filter housing and secured on the filter housing by means of spring-elastic fastening elements. The transition between the pump outlet and the air inlet is sealed off in airtight fashion.

  • Patent number: 5940951
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of cladded metal pipes facilitates joining of a tube blank and a coaxially disposed pipe section received therein, for subsequent extrusion of a resultant tube blank-pipe combination to form an internally-clad pipe of desired dimension. The pipe section, which is inserted into the tube blank, is expanded radially by internally directed pressure, while force is axially applied to maintain the expansion of the pipe section following removal of the applied internal pressure and axial force. A mechanically joined tube blank-pipe combination thus formed is extruded to form a finished pipe of desired profile in which a diffusion bond is present between material layers comprising the internally-clad pipe corresponding to the pipe section and the tube blank.
