Abstract: A recording material for the ink jet printing process, comprising a paper support and an ink absorbing layer containing a pigment and a binding agent characterised in that the paper contains a mixture of softwood sulphate and eucalyptus cellulose, and has a wet stretch in the transverse direction<3.0%, a tearing length ratio longitudinal/transverse<2, a stiffness ratio longitudinal/transverse<2 and a density<0.8 g/cm.sup.3.

Abstract: A method of visually inspecting the formation of a web of translucent material by means of a device it moves past. The device consists of a source of light on one side of the web generating a beam of light of a desired hue and intensity that penetrates the web, and a video camera on the side of the web away from the source of light, intercepting the beam and converting it into a video signal that is forwarded to a monitor. The source of light emits the beam in a flash of duration t.sub.1 that is too short for the web to advance far enough while illuminated to blur the image. The image on the monitor is accompanied by a reference image.

Abstract: A waterproof, polyolefin coated paper support for photographic coatings is disclosed, wherein the paper base contains an alkylketene dimer as a hydrophobizing sizing agent. The alkylketene dimer consists to the greater part of behenyl ketene and contains no more than 40% residues originating from alkylketenes having chains shorter than C.sub.20 -alkyl.

Abstract: A waterproof photographic paper support, which is coated with a polyolefin resin, is provided. The paper itself is formed from a particular paper pulp composition which contains fatty acids and/or fatty acid salts and an aluminum salt, as well as, if necessary, alkylketenedimer. Such paper pulp concentration contains, furthermore, anionic and cationic polyacrylamides in the ratio of 40:60 to 60:40, as well as an epoxidized fatty acid amide. The acrylic acid content of the anionic polyacrylamide amounts to between about 5% and 20%.
