  • Patent number: 10420167
Abstract: Techniques for sharing a cellular network connection amongst multiple devices over a local area network are provided that reduce cellular network load during crowded events. In an aspect, a devices is configure to perform operations that include scanning an area for another device that has established a first wireless cellular connection with a cellular network device of a cellular network and that enables an indirect connection of the device to the cellular network device via a direct connection of the device to the other device via a local network device. The operations further include, in response to identifying the other device as a result of the scanning, sending a request to the other device to connect to the other device via the local network device and to receive the indirect connection to the cellular network device.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 13, 2017
Date of Patent: September 17, 2019
Assignees: AT&T INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY I, L.P., BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY
Inventors: Lusheng Ji, Jeffrey Pang, Jia Wang, Shobha Venkataraman, Muhammad Zubair Shafiq, Xiang-Yang Alex Liu

  • Patent number: 7954142
Abstract: A system, computer-implementable method, and computer-usable medium for resolving discrepancies between diverse firewall designs. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, a firewall design manager receives at least two designs for a rule-based system and computing at least one functional discrepancy between the at least two designs utilizing decision diagrams.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 31, 2006
Date of Patent: May 31, 2011
Assignee: The Board of Regents, University of Texas System
Inventors: Mohamed G. Gouda, Xiang-Yang Alex Liu
  • Patent number: 7818793
Abstract: A system, method and computer-usable medium for designing a firewall to protect a data processing system. A user first specifies a firewall decision diagram. The firewall decision diagram is then reduced and marked. Finally, a firewall is generated from the marked firewall decision diagram.

  • Patent number: 7793344
Abstract: A system, method, and computer-usable medium for removing redundancy from packet classifiers. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, a packet classifier is implemented as a sequence of rules. A redundancy manager marks at least one upward redundant rule and at least one downward redundant rule. The redundancy manager removes at least one rule marked as upward redundant and at least one rule marked as downward redundant.
