  • Patent number: 8443956
Abstract: A dual clutch transmission having a hydraulic circuit for controlling and cooling the clutches of a dual clutch transmission having lube valves in fluid communication with a source of pressurized fluid and wherein the cooling flow is controlled by a solenoid which is adapted to move a valve member to produce a flow area through the valve that is an inverse function of the current delivered to the solenoid and so as to deliver a predetermined control solenoid pressure ultimately to each of the clutches of a dual clutch transmission.

    Assignee: BorgWarner Inc.
Inventors: Karl-Heinz Bauer, Xiaoning Xiang, Melissa Koenig
  • Patent number: 8376906
Abstract: An automatic transmission for a hybrid vehicle includes a hydraulic circuit (110) having a source of pressurized fluid (112), an actuation circuit (114) that delivers pressurized fluid to actuate components of the transmission, and a cooling circuit (116) used to cool components of the transmission. The source of pressurized fluid includes a first pump (134) that is operatively driven by the internal combustion engine of the hybrid vehicle and a second pump (136) that is operatively driven by the electric motor (138). The second pump (136) acts to supply pressurized fluid to the cooling circuit (116) when the first pump (134) is operatively driven by the internal combustion engine under certain predetermined conditions.

  • Patent number: 7856999
Abstract: An automatic transmission having at least one hydraulic valve with flow force compensation. The hydraulic valve includes a valve body having a valve bore and at least one inlet and at least one outlet adapted to provide fluid communication with a source of pressurized hydraulic fluid and a return to the source of pressure. A valve member is slidingly disposed within the valve body that includes at least one valve element having an outer diameter and a metering face. The metering face is adapted to control the flow of pressurized hydraulic fluid between the inlet and the outlet of the valve body. The metering face includes a flow force compensating annular void disposed adjacent to the outer diameter that is defined by a lead angle ? measured between the outer surface and a line intersecting the outer surface and tangential to the annular void.
