  • Patent number: 11994489
Abstract: An ion selective electrode (“ISE”) assembly may be installed within a sample path of a biological testing system to measure ion concentration within sample fluid flowing through the sample path. A transducer membrane is placed within a housing and positioned to contact the sample path. A threaded portion is advanced into a socket of the housing and forces the membrane against a sealing portion of the sample path to prevent retention of sample fluid within the housing after testing. Sealing may be accomplished without adhesives or sealants and instead relies upon mechanical pressure of the threaded portion.

Date of Patent: May 28, 2024
    Assignee: Beckman Coulter, Inc.

Another implementation includes a reference measuring electrode and several ion measuring electrodes combined into a single housing. Another implementation includes a reference measuring electrode and several ion measuring electrodes combined into a cartridge that includes a sample well instead of a sample path.

  • Publication number: 20050266579
Abstract: A total bilirubin diazo assay is disclosed in which an acidic solution containing a primary aryl amine is combined directly with a nitrite-containing sample solution at approximately neutral pH, resulting in the in situ generation of a diazo compound in the sample solution. The diazo compound reacts with bilirubin in the sample solution to form a colored reaction product that can be measured.

  • Patent number: 6508921
Abstract: A lithium ion-selective membrane that favors the bonding of lithium and depresses sodium interference is invented by a charge balance approach. A lithium ion-selective electrode (Li-ISE) having the membrane of this invention demonstrates a fast kinetic response, good precision and reproducibility, high sensitivity and the ability to retain the sensitivity after a long-term contact with biological samples. The sensor shows Nernst linearity with a slope of 55.4 mV for lithium ion concentrations between 0.5 &mgr;mol/L and 10 mmol/L. The membrane includes at least about 2% by weight of 6,6-dibenzyl-1,4,8,11 tetraoxacyclotetradecane ionophore; from about 0.025% to about 1% by weight of potassium tetrakis(4-chlorophenyl)borate additive; a plasticizer; and a polymeric material.

  • Patent number: 5424214
Abstract: Diluents and methodologies for determining the concentration of total calcium in a clinical sample (e.g. whole blood, sera plasma urine cerebro spinal fluid) containing protein-bound calcium are disclosed. Methodologies include the steps of: (a) admixing the sample with a diluent, the diluent including effective amounts of a pH buffer and at least two agents capable of complexing free calcium in the sample, where the agent-calcium complex association constants ("log K" in base 10) each have a range from about 1.5 to about 7.0; and (b) contacting an aliquot of the diluted sample with a calcium-specific ion selective electrode. The response of the calcium-specific ion selective electrode is an indication of the concentration of total calcium in the sample.
