The UE may employ a differential report that includes a state for indicating that a beam is not workable. The UE may employ a beam index that includes a state for indicating an invalid beam. A base station may receive a signal quality report and determine workability of a beam, e.g., by triggering a report of channel state information.

The first communication device generates, based on the set of one or more training signals included in the NDP received from the second communication device, an aggregate media access control protocol data unit (A-MPDU) to include a plurality of fragments of beamforming training information for the second communication device. No single fragment among the plurality of fragments includes an entirety of the beamforming training information. The first communication device transmits the A-MPDU to the second communication device in a single physical layer (PHY) data unit and as part of a multi-user transmission.

The repetition module is configured to repeat the modulated symbols from a first half of the plurality of subcarriers to a second half of the plurality of subcarriers. The phase rotation module is configured to rotate phase of the modulated symbols on selected subcarriers of the second half of the plurality of subcarriers. The selected subcarriers of the second half of the plurality of subcarriers include at least one half of the second half of the plurality of subcarriers.

The first communication device sets the length subfield of the legacy signal field to a length value such that a remainder value resulting from dividing the length value by three, indicates that the PHY data unit conforms to the first communication protocol.
