    Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed including techniques for rendering a 360-degree media content. Techniques disclosed include receiving a 360-degree media content and associated metadata that include a classification of a first spatial region from the received content. Techniques disclosed further include determining that a detected user movement is associated with a rendering of the first spatial region and determining whether the classification associated with the first spatial region complies with a stored user preference. If the classification violates the user preference, a path for gradually shifting the content rendering from a currently rendered spatial region to a spatial region that complies with the user preference is determined, and the received content is rendered according to the determined path.

A refined MV search includes deriving a MV of a subblock of the CB based on a CPMV of the CB, performing subblock MV refinement for the MV of the subblock, and outputting the refined MV of the CB based on a refined MV of the subblock. A refined MV search further includes deriving an affine model parameter based on a plurality of CPMVs of the CB, performing an affine parameter offset search for the affine model parameter, and outputting the refined MV of the CB based on an optimal parameter offset.

    Abstract: An Online Meta Learning (“OML”) framework is provided for learned image compression (“LIC”) based on a variable-rate Conditional Variational Auto-Encoder (“CVAE”) architecture. A computing system is configured to learn, from multiple training tasks of compression with different RD tradeoff ?s, a set of task-general meta parameters controlled by meta-control variables ?. Meta parameters learn a mapping between the meta-control variables ? and compression effects of different RD tradeoffs ?s. Meta-control variables ? are adaptively determined and transmitted on the fly to an encoder and a decoder of an image compression process, to accommodate the current compression need for any current test datum. A parallelized context computation method is also provided for an online CVAE-based meta-LIC architecture; since OML requires multiple iterations at an encoder, parallel context estimation substantially improves computational time in practice.

    Abstract: Coding techniques for 360-degree video are described. An encoder selects a projection format and maps the 360-degree video to a 2D planar video using the selected projection format. The encoder encodes the 2D planar video in a bitstream and further signals, in the bitstream, parameters identifying the projection format. The parameters identifying the projection format may be signaled in a video parameter set, sequence parameter set, and/or picture parameter set of the bitstream. Different projection formats that may be signaled include formats using geometries such as equirectangular, cubemap, equal-area, octahedron, icosahedron, cylinder, and user-specified polygon. Other parameters that may be signaled include different arrangements of geometric faces or different encoding quality for different faces. Corresponding decoders are also described. In some embodiments, projection parameters may further include relative geometry rotation parameters that define an orientation of the projection geometry.
