  • Patent number: 9851615
Abstract: An optical modulator is disclosed, in which a MMI couplers are used for input signal splitting for branching into individual Mach-Zehnder interferometers, as well as for branching and combining from individual Mach-Zehnder waveguides. MMI couplers, splitters, and combiners may be cascaded and combined with single-mode Y-splitters and combiners to provide modulators of various types, including dual polarization, quadrature phase Mach-Zehnder interferometer base optical modulators.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 10, 2017
Date of Patent: December 26, 2017
    Assignee: Lumentum Operations LLC
Inventors: Charles M. Jewart, Yannick Lize, Karl Kissa

  • Publication number: 20140086533
Abstract: A method for aligning two optical assemblies comprises positioning a first optical assembly in relation to a second optical assembly and securing the first optical assembly to the second optical assembly. The positioning aligns a plurality of first alignment features of the first optical assembly to a plurality of second alignment features of the second optical assembly. Aligning the first alignment features to the second alignment features aligns the second optical assembly to a plurality of optical components on the first optical assembly.

  • Publication number: 20070036556
Abstract: An optical label-switching method and apparatus in which a payload signal is modulated on an optical carrier through differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) by a Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM), and a label signal is imposed on the DPSK signal by the same MZM through an optical amplitude change effected by modulating the DPSK drive signal or MZM bias.
