  • Patent number: 7735766
Abstract: A seatbelt retractor reduces the temporary weight during seatbelt withdrawal to increase an occupant's comfort. When a seatbelt is not being worn by an occupant (off), projections of an internal gear are placed in a circumferential center between adjacent projections by the spring force of springs. When a spool rotates in the belt withdrawing direction, the internal gear also rotates in the belt withdrawing direction. This arrangement disables a reduction mechanism's power transmission to cut off the direct connection between the spool and electric motor connected to a sun gear to reduce the temporary weight during withdrawal of the seatbelt. When the internal gear rotates at a predetermined angle, the projections come into contact with the projections to thereby stop the rotation of the internal gear. This enables the power transmission of the reduction mechanism, whereby the spool and electric motor are brought into direct connection via the reduction mechanism.

  • Publication number: 20100127554
Abstract: A seatbelt retractor according to the present invention is configured in such a manner that a cylindrical rotor (24) of an electric motor in a spool is formed into two members in the axial direction, that is, a two-piece member including a first rotating member (24a1) and a first rotating shaft member (24b1), and a second rotating member (24a2) and a second rotating shaft member (24b2), and these two members are coupled. A torsional portion (42a) of a torsion bar (42) is penetrated through an inner hole (24b11) of a rotating shaft member (24b) including first and second rotating shaft members (24b1), (24b2) in the axial direction. Accordingly, even though the maximum outer diameters of first and second head portions (42b), (42c) of the torsion bar (42) are set to be larger than the inner diameter of the inner hole (24b11), the torsion bar (42) can be integrated into the rotor (24) easily.

  • Publication number: 20070029429
Abstract: A seatbelt retractor is configured such that the thickness of the base end of a seatbelt in engagement with a spool is minimized so as to reduce the outside diameter of the spool so that the size can be reduced effectively and high workability can be provided. A spool includes a spool body and a cylindrical member placed in the spool body. The spool body has an arc-shaped body. With the cylindrical member placed in the spool body, the interval between the inner circumferential surface of the body and the outer circumferential surface of the cylindrical member is set substantially the same as the thickness of the seatbelt. The base end of the seatbelt sandwiched between the body and the cylindrical member in such a manner that an end of the seatbelt is folded back is in engagement with the rim of the body.

  • Publication number: 20060226274
Abstract: The disclosed seat belt retractor and seat belt apparatus may effectively suppress vibration and noise occurring in a seat belt retractor so as not to be transmitted to a motor vehicle body. The seat belt retractor may comprise a spool for retracting and withdrawing the seat belt and a base frame for rotatably supporting the spool. The base frame may comprises a first frame for rotatably supporting the spool, a second frame attached to a motor vehicle body, and a cushioning device intervening between the first and second frames.

  • Publication number: 20060214043
Abstract: The disclosed seat belt retractor may comprise an electric motor which can be disposed inside a cylindrical spool. The rotation of the electric motor may be transmitted to the spool via a sun gear, planetary gears and a carrier. In the event of an emergency, a locking mechanism may be actuated by the action of a deceleration sensor to lock the rotation of a locking base in the belt unwinding direction. However, the spool is about to continue to rotate in the belt unwinding direction due to the inertial movement of an occupant. Thus, an energy absorbing mechanism may be used to absorb the impact energy on the occupant and limiting the load on a seat belt 6 so that the load is not too large.
