  • Patent number: 5335527
Abstract: A two wheel type continuous extrusion apparatus has two rotary wheels having grooves receiving covering material rods, a fixed shoe block arranged therebetween and an abutement receiving a core metal wire. Covering material inlet apertures are provided for communicating passage-ways receiving the covering material rods to a covering chamber for extruding the covering material on the core metal wire to manufacture a composite metal wire. The covering material inlet apertures are inclined relative to a line connecting rotary axes of the rotary wheels such that the covering chamber is positioned on the side of supplying of the covering material rods relative to the connecting line. Consequently, a constraining force for constraining a shoe block becomes small.

  • Patent number: 4836220
Abstract: The leaf-stripping machine of the present invention is provided with a pair of leaf-stripping rollers, the length of which is substantially the same as a tobacco stalk. The leaf-stripping rollers include a horizontal longitudinal axis, extend parallel to and are in rolling contact with each other. A holding frame, on which the tobacco stalk is placed in parallel to the leaf-stripping rollers, is located above the leaf-stripping rollers. The holding frame includes holding rods arranged at predetermined intervals in the longitudinal direction of the leaf-stripping rollers. The central portion of each holding rod is curved toward the leaf-stripping rollers, and is cut in such a manner as to provide a gap smaller than the diameter of the tobacco stalk. A plurality of partitioning plates are arranged under the leaf-stripping rollers, such that they are spaced from each other in the longitudinal direction of the leaf-stripping rollers.

  • Patent number: 4773434
Abstract: A sorting system according to the present invention comprises a leaf picking apparatus for picking off tobacco leaves from tobacco plants and dropping the leaves while the plants are being passed through the leaf picking apparatus, a collecting vessel disposed under the picking apparatus and adapted to receive and collect and picked and dropped tobacco leaves, a plurality of partition walls disposed in the vessel and dividing the inside thereof into a plurality of compartments successively arranged in a guide direction across the passing direction of the plants, a pair of inclined guide rails for guiding the collecting vessel in moving in the guide direction, and a rack and pinion for moving the collecting vessel in association with the transport of the tobacco plants.

  • Patent number: 4744373
Abstract: A leaf picking apparatus according to the present invention comprises a leaf picking disk of elastic material adapted to rotate in one direction. The disk has an opening in the center and a plurality of elastically deformable tongues spaced circumferentially and extending radially inward from the peripheral edge of the opening. Each tongue of the disk is fitted with a metallic plate piece for keeping the tongue curved to one side of the disk and twisted in the direction opposite to the rotating direction of the disk. The plate pieces project from the distal ends of their corresponding tongues. A cylindrical leaf picking tip is fixed to the projecting end of each plate piece. The tip has an axis across the longitudinal direction of its corresponding tongue, and its leading end, as viewed in the rotating direction, is located outside its trailing end with respect to the radial direction of the disk.

  • Patent number: 4438155
Abstract: A method of fabricating composite metal wires such as aluminium clad steel wires is disclosed which comprises providing a core of hard metal with a cladding of soft metal by extrusion. In fabricating a composite metal wire by extrusion, a core is generally aligned, polished, cleaned or otherwise pretreated before entering an extruder so that a high and variable tension is imparted to the core. By avoiding such tension variation and maintaining the core under a constant low tension and by electrically heating the core before the core enters the extruder, a composite metal wire of improved quality is fabricated in a stable manner.

  • Patent number: 4270373
Abstract: A rod in the form of a composite metal wire having a harder metal core surrounded by a softer metal cladding is introduced together with lubricant into a die comprising an approach which includes a first frustoconical opening defining a vertical angle between 0.degree. and 5.degree. (exclusive of 0.degree.) and a second frustoconical opening defining a vertical angle between 6.degree. and 20.degree.. The lubricant is pressurized in the first frustoconical opening of the die approach while the rod is drawn under fluid lubrication.

  • Patent number: 4242368
Abstract: An improved method for manufacturing a composite metal wire including a core metal wire having extruded therearound a coating metal layer which is different in material from the core metal wire, includes feeding the coating metal into a narrow passageway which is defined between a circumferential groove formed on the outer edge of a rotary wheel and a close fitting surface of a fixed shoe block, carrying the coating metal towards an outlet end of the passageway by frictional drag with the surface of the passageway in accordance with the rotation of the wheel, and passing a core metal wire harder in material than the coating metal through a covering chamber of a larger cross sectional area which is provided with a die and a nipple at the front and rear portions, respectively, whereby the core metal wire is covered with the coating metal in the covering chamber so that a predetermined construction of a composite metal wire is extruded through the die.
