  • Patent number: 7761897
Abstract: A TV receiver preliminarily measures and stores, in a memory, data of best receiving directions, each giving maximum signal intensity, of a multi-directional antenna for receivable channels. When the antenna rotationally shifts physically for some reason, one channel is selected and subjected to measurements by an omni-directional scanning again to determine a new best receiving direction. A receiving direction number difference between the stored best receiving direction and the new best receiving direction of the same channel is determined. Using the receiving direction number difference for the one channel, all data stored in the memory are renewed at one time, the data being the best receiving direction numbers and the signal intensities therefor for all the channels. The antenna direction can be quickly adjusted to the rotational shift by new measurements for one channel, without requiring time to make unnecessary measurements for all channels, achieving a best receiving condition steadily.

  • Patent number: 7716706
Abstract: A multi-directional antenna connected with a digital television broadcast signal receiver is arranged not to move one full turn instantaneously in response to an abrupt drop down in the intensity of a received signal thus to avoid any downward overshooting of the intensity of the received signal and eliminate any useless direction searching time while remains favorably controlled to face in the direction where the intensity of the received signal is at optimum. More specifically, the maximum of the intensity of a received signal at each channel is measured and the threshold is set to a level lower than the maximum. When the intensity of a received signal has dropped down from the threshold, the antenna remains not turned within a predetermined period of marginal time. The antenna is moved one full turn only when the intensity drops down from the threshold and stays continuously over the predetermined period of marginal time.

  • Patent number: 7559071
Abstract: In a broadcasting receiver having a function to set and select an operation mode of the receiver for each user based on input by a plurality of users, the operation mode is selected for each user to make a user setting and stored in a memory in correlation with a predetermined input pattern of an operation key. When having received a user's input in the predetermined pattern, the receiver refers to the memory to select a user setting that corresponds to this input pattern, thus switching the operation mode. It is thus possible to identify the operation mode for each user in use by simple operations.

  • Patent number: 7546620
Abstract: A channel selection device of the invention used in a digital/analog broadcasting receiver, upon reception of a channel changing instruction sent from input device, tries to select a desired channel by referencing its VCT if it can find channel information in a memory and, if it could not find the desired channel and failed in channel selection, obtains the latest VCT to thereby select such a channel in the VCT that has the smallest sub-channel number in the same main channel or select such a channel that has the smallest sub-channel number in the same physical channel. Thus, if a channel specified in the channel changing instruction sent from the user has no broadcast therethrough and failed to be selected, an appropriate channel is selected automatically, thus avoiding a state that nothing is displayed on the display.

  • Patent number: 7522546
Abstract: When a digital broadcast is currently extracted and a switching direction instruction is accepted, determination is made as to which of a CH number (analog number) next to a currently extracted channel in the switching direction according to the order indicated in an analog CH map and a CH number (digital number) next to the currently extracted channel in the switching direction according to the order indicated in a digital channel map is closer to the number of the currently extracted channel (extracted number). When closer to the analog number, the channel is switched to the analog number. When closer to the digital number, the channel is switched to the digital number. Thus, the channel of analog and digital broadcasts can be switched in a seamless manner.

  • Patent number: 7509666
Abstract: A TV broadcast receiver measures, at least two times, a signal intensity in a maximum receiving direction and a signal intensity in the 180 degree opposite receiving direction among 16 receiving directions of a smart antenna. If the signal intensity in the maximum receiving direction is significantly different from that in the opposite receiving direction, it determines that the smart antenna is connected. If the signal intensity in the maximum receiving direction is substantially the same as that in the opposite receiving direction, it determines that the smart antenna is disconnected. It displays messages of the connection and disconnection of the smart antenna on a monitor. This makes it possible to quickly determine whether the antenna connected to the TV broadcast receiver is a smart antenna or a stationary unidirectional antenna.
