  • Patent number: 4256465
Abstract: A method for producing methyl tert-butyl ether which comprises the steps of: allowing isobutylene-containing hydrocarbon and methyl alcohol in a given molar ratio to react at a given temperature, pressure and liquid space velocity in the presence of strongly acidic cation-exchange resin catalyst; then passing the reaction product through a fixed bed filled with a water-insoluble, solid particulate acid-neutralizing agent; and subjecting the effluent to flashing operation, preferably also to rectification, to obtain methyl tert-butyl ether. Further included in the invention is the preparation of a fuel composition by mixing the thus obtained methyl tert-butyl ether into an internal combustion fuel.

  • Patent number: 4129651
Abstract: In a method of removing nitrogen oxides non-catalytically from an exhaust combustion gas by maintaining said combustion gas at a temperature of from 700.degree. to 1300.degree. C in the presence of oxygen and an ammonia source in a combustion apparatus which has heat exchange surfaces in a zone downstream of the position where the ammonia source is added, the improvement which comprises feeding said ammonia source to the exhaust combustion gas at a position where the heat exchange surface area in the space downstream of the position of ammonia source addition which has a combustion gas residence time of up to 1 second is less than 0.5 .times. 10.sup.-2 m.sup.2 per 1 Nm.sup.3 /H of said combustion gas flow; and the temperature of said combustion gas at the outlet of said space is above 700.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4110065
Abstract: A cock apparatus of automatic ignition type for use in a gas appliance including an ignition handle, a valve member disposed within the cock body for rotation with the turning movement of the ignition handle thereby supplying gas to a main burner and a pilot burner, and a spark generator generating sparks for igniting the pilot burner in response to the turning movement of the ignition handle. The cock comprises a rotary shaft capable of free rotation and restrained rotation relative to the valve member and normally urged by a spring to rotate in the closing direction of the valve member, and a heat sensor for sensing ignition and non-ignition of the main burner, the heat sensor being operatively connected to the rotary shaft so that the rotary shaft and the valve member can be automatically rotated in the valve closing direction by the force of the spring in the event of ignition failure of gas or accidental extinction of gas flame burning on the main burner.
