Abstract: In a video tape recorder, a video tape is advanced, at variable speeds other than the normal speed in order to search tape position for editing purpose, by observing the reproduced image on a monitor screen. A speed command signal is supplied to the video tape recorder in the form of a frequency signal. A capstan installed in the video tape recorder carries a frequency generator, and the tape speed is determined by directly comparing a frequency of the command signal with a frequency of a rotation signal obtained from the frequency generator.

Abstract: A digital signal selective or detecting circuit which is responsive to a periodic input signal having a frequency within a specified range, such as an audio frequency used as a cueing signal in a VTR, only when the signal in such frequency range exists for a predetermined time; includes a clock pulse generator providing reference clock pulses, a first counting circuit counting the reference clock pulses whenever the periodic signal is present, a circuit providing a counting pulse whenever an operating characteristic of the periodic signal, such as the transition between its positive and negative portions, occurs at a time when the count in the first counting circuit is between first and second predetermined counts, and a second counting circuit counting each counting pulse and providing an output when the second counting circuit attains a predetermined count.

Abstract: In a tape editing system having a first or master VTR operable in a playback mode for reproducing video signals recorded on a first tape, and a second or slave VTR selectively operable in a playback mode for reproducing video signals previously recorded on a second tape or in a record mode for replacing a portion of such previously recorded signals with a portion of the video signals being simultaneously reproduced from the first tape; an editing control apparatus or unit is provided for precisely selecting the portion of the video signals on the first tape to be recorded on the second tape and the portion of the video signals on the second tape to be replaced by the selected video signals from the first tape.

Abstract: Video tape apparatus using a cassette with a tape running between reels. A short loop of tape is drawn out and follows a path past an erase head. This short path offers low friction and permits fast tape movement in Fast Forward and Rewind modes while allowing the erase head to pick up tape synchronizing pulses. A counter counts these pulses to indicate the length of tape passing the head during the count, thus facilitating reaching a predetermined point quickly for editing tape. The short loop also more correctly aligns the tape to facilitate withdrawing it from either reel and feeding it onto the other. At slower tape speed for Playback and Record modes, pulses to be counted can be derived from the video signal, from a control head, or from a generator that responds to speed of the recording head shaft.
