  • Patent number: 9527737
Abstract: Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) having a desired diameter are selectively produced by reacting a carbon source with a cyclic compound in which multiple aromatic rings are continuously bonded. The reaction is preferably performed by supplying a gaseous carbon source under reduced pressure and heating. The cyclic compound in which multiple aromatic rings are continuously bonded is preferably a cyclic compound in which bivalent aromatic hydrocarbon groups are continuously bonded, or a modified cycloparaphenylene compound in which a cycloparaphenylene compound or at least one phenylene group of the cycloparaphenylene compound is substituted with a condensed cyclic group such as a naphthylene group.

  • Publication number: 20160168179
Abstract: If a method for directly functionalizing cycloparaphenylene compounds is developed, such a method is expected to be applied to any cycloparaphenylene compound, thus theoretically enabling introduction of a functional group into all cycloparaphenylene compounds. Therefore, a primary object of the present invention is to provide a method for easily functionalizing cycloparaphenylene compounds directly. A cyclopolyarylene metal complex in which a metal tricarbonyl is coordinated to one benzene ring of a cyclopolyarylene compound is provided. The cyclopolyarylene metal complex is obtained by using a production method comprising the step of reacting a cyclopolyarylene compound with a metal compound represented by the following formula: M(CO)3Ym, wherein M is a metal atom; Y is the same or different, and each represents a ligand; and m is an integer of 1 to 3.

  • Patent number: 9266909
Abstract: This invention selectively synthesizes a cycloparaphenylene compound having 10, 11, or 13 benzene rings. The invention also synthesizes a cycloparaphenylene compound in which a functional group is introduced into a desired portion. By reacting specific raw materials using a specific reaction, a cyclic compound having 10, 11, or 13 bivalent aromatic hydrocarbon groups, bivalent heterocyclic groups, or derivative groups thereof can be selectively obtained as a pure substance.

  • Patent number: 9056822
Abstract: PAH is subjected to C—H/C—B coupling using a specific boron compound, a palladium compound, and o-chloranil to produce a compound in which a C—H bond of the PAH is directly arylated regioselectively in a simple manner. When the substrate and the boron compound are appropriately selected, a larger PAH can also be obtained by further performing an annulation reaction after the coupling reaction. Similarly, when PAH is subjected to C—H/C—H cross-coupling using a specific aromatic compound, a palladium compound, and o-chloranil, a compound in which a C—H bond of the PAH is directly arylated regioselectively can be produced in a simple manner. When the substrate and the aromatic compound are appropriately selected in this case, a larger PAH can also be obtained by further performing an annulation reaction after the cross-coupling reaction.

  • Patent number: 9029551
Abstract: This invention provides: a compound for accurately forming a carbon nanoring that contains a specific number of organic rings and has a definite diameter; a method for producing the compound; a method for efficiently producing a carbon nanoring; and a cycloparaphenylene obtained by the production method. The carbon nanoring of the present invention is a compound obtained by bonding a specific number of organic ring groups. The method for producing a carbon nanoring of the present invention comprises a modification step wherein a halogen atom in a U-shaped compound is modified into a boron compound, and a coupling step wherein the U-shaped compound is subjected to a coupling reaction. The U-shaped compound is a novel compound that has cyclohexane rings, benzene rings, and specific organic ring groups.

  • Publication number: 20130324768
Abstract: The present invention produces Cyclic Compound (1) in which organic ring groups including cyclohexane rings and benzene rings are continuously bonded, using a compound having at least one cyclohexane ring and benzene rings with halogen atoms at the two terminuses, in the presence of a nickel compound (bis(1,5-cyclooctadiene)nickel, etc.). Thereafter, by converting the cyclohexane rings in Cyclic Compound (1) into benzene rings, a desired carbon nanoring can be obtained. Thereby, the present invention efficiently produces a carbon nanoring made of a compound having a cyclic structure in which a desired number of organic ring groups are continuously bonded, with a short production process.
