  • Publication number: 20070015050
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a battery module for medium- or large-sized battery packs, including a plurality of unit cells, wherein the unit cells are generally plate-shaped unit cells, and the unit cells are electrically connected with each other while the unit cells are arranged in a module case so as to constitute at least two rows and at least two columns. According to the present invention, integration of the battery module is highly improved. Especially, the vertical-direction mechanical strength of the battery module is further increased, and the number of connecting members necessary for the electrical connection between the unit cells is reduced.

  • Publication number: 20060255766
Abstract: Disclosed is a battery pack management method for HEV and EV. The method comprises steps of: applying power for a control signal to a relay of a battery pack connection circuit through a battery management system (BMS) or vehicle control device; detecting current or voltage from a pre-charge resistor of the battery pack connection circuit; comparing the detected current or voltage with standard correspondence information pre-stored in a memory unit of the BMS to determine whether the detected value is within a normal range of the battery pack; and carrying out a normal charging operation when the detected value is within the normal range as a result of the determination, otherwise turning off a pre-charge relay of the battery pack connection circuit and then providing a driver with a warning signal through warning means electrically connected to the BMS.

  • Publication number: 20060251960
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a housing member for a battery module, which is mounted to at least one side of the battery module such that a flow channel of refrigerant is defined in the battery module having unit cells stacked therein, wherein the housing member is provided with electrically connecting members for electrically connecting electrode terminals of the unit cells with each other and/or electrically connecting an external device to the electrode terminals, the electrically connecting members being integrally formed at the housing member. The housing member according to the present invention is manufactured in a structure in which the electrically connecting members are integrally formed at the housing member. Consequently, the manufacturing costs of the housing member are reduced. Furthermore, the assembly process of the battery module is greatly simplified, and the occurrence of short circuits caused by an engineer's mistake is effectively prevented.

  • Publication number: 20060246781
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a terminal-connecting device including an electrically insulating hollow connecting device body having an open upper end, and an electrically insulating cover coupled to the open upper end of the connecting device body. The terminal-connecting device is constructed such that a plate-shaped conductive bus bar is mounted to the lower end of the connecting device body, two or more terminal insertion holes are formed in the lower end of the connecting device body and the bus bar, the terminal insertion holes formed in the lower end of the connecting device body communicating with the terminal insertion holes formed in the bus bar, and a connecting member insertion slit is formed in one side of connecting device body for allowing further connection of the corresponding electrode terminal to an external connecting member, as occasion demands.

  • Publication number: 20060246345
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a secondary battery module comprising a plurality of unit cells stacked one on another, wherein the unit cells are spaced apart from each other such that a channel for heat dissipation is defined between the unit cells, the battery module further comprises at least one piezoelectric sensor mounted in the channel, and the at least one piezoelectric sensor is connected to a battery management system (BMS). According to the present invention, the piezoelectric sensor is mounted in the channel defined between the unit cells of the secondary battery module. Consequently, no additional space for installing the piezoelectric sensor is needed, and therefore, the increase of the size of the battery module is effectively prevented. Furthermore, the change of the internal pressure of the battery is accurately detected by the piezoelectric sensor, and therefore, the expansion or the explosion of the battery caused due to the overcharge or overheating of the unit cells is effectively prevented.

  • Publication number: 20060159988
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a secondary battery pack including a plurality of cartridges. Each of the cartridges has a plurality of unit cells mounted therein. The cartridges are stacked one on another in an alternate orientation structure in which electrode terminals of the neighboring cartridges are not located on the same plane when the cartridges are electrically connected to each other, thereby accomplishing easy and safe electrical connection between the cartridges.

  • Publication number: 20060148187
Abstract: A self-aligned bipolar semiconductor device and a fabrication method thereof are provided. After a silicon layer and a collector contact are formed on a buried collector layer, an oxide dummy pattern is formed on the silicon layer to define both an extrinsic base and an intrinsic base. A polycide layer used as the extrinsic base is formed thereon and selectively removed to expose the dummy pattern. After the exposed dummy pattern is removed, an epitaxial layer used as the intrinsic base is grown on both the silicon layer and the polycide layer, and selectively removed from the top of the polycide layer. An oxide layer and a nitride layer are deposited in sequence thereon, and the nitride layer is blanket-etched to form spacers defining an emitter. After a photoresist pattern is formed to mostly cover the oxide layer and partly expose the oxide layer between the spacers over the intrinsic base, the oxide layer is etched by using the photoresist pattern and the spacers as an etch mask.
