  • Patent number: 9323830
Abstract: Systems and methods for automatically generating replacement query terms that offer improved search efficiency. Recommended search query terms are generated based on statistic information derived from empirical data recording prior search sessions with respect to searching on a search engine. A query term entered later in a search session is treated as a possible replacement term for a query term entered earlier in the same session. Upon receiving an initial query term in a new search session, the replacement terms of the initial query term are identified from the empirical data and evaluated as candidates for replacing the initial query term in the new search session. The evaluation is based on the respective occurrence rates that the candidates are used as replacement terms for the initial query term in the empirical data, and based on the respective conversion rates of the candidates.

  • Patent number: 9116979
Abstract: Profiling systems and methods of creating and using user interest profiles are described. In some example embodiments, the method includes: creating a topic set which includes topics which are organized in a hierarchical structure which includes a plurality of topic levels including an upper topic level and a lower topic level, each topic in the lower topic level being a subtopic of at least one of the topics in the upper topic level; monitoring interest in a plurality of documents for a user to identify one or more documents-of-interest to the user; and based on the monitored interest for the user, creating an interest profile for the user by determining a measure of topical interest for the user for at least one of the topics at the upper topic level and for a subtopic of that topic, the subtopic being at the lower topic level.

  • Publication number: 20070271259
Abstract: A system and method for crawling Web content. First a set of geographic locations is defined. A portion of the set of geographic locations is assigned to a first crawling node. A second portion of the set of geographic locations is assigned to as second crawling node. The first and second crawling nodes then crawl Web content. For each Web page that is located by the first and second crawling nodes a determination is made as to whether the Web page contains a geographic location that belongs the set of geographic locations. If it is determined that the a Web page that is located by either the first or second crawling node does belong to the set of geographic locations, then that Web page is referred to the crawling node to which that geographic location is assigned.

  • Publication number: 20060282455
Abstract: A system and method for ranking Web content comprising Web pages or portions of Web pages containing a geographical entity are described. The system includes a data structure that comprises a graph representing the Web content. The graph includes a plurality of page nodes, wherein each page node represents one of the Web pages, a plurality of geographic nodes, wherein each geographic node represents one of the geographic entities, a plurality of directed page edges, wherein each directed page edge represents a directed link between a pair of Web pages, and a plurality of directed geographic edges, wherein each directed geographic edge represents a directed link between one geographic entity and one Web page. The system further includes a ranking module for ranking the Web content based on at least a portion of the plurality of directed page edges and a portion of the plurality of directed geographic edges.
