  • Patent number: 8048550
Abstract: A gasket elastomer precursor of admixed fluoroelastomer particulate, curing agent, and metallic oxide reduction-agent optionally admixed with any of microspheres, inert particulate, PTFE particles. In one embodiment, the composition is applied to a substrate and cured to provide a fuel cell gasket. The admixtures provide a basis for designed cured admixtures having internally differentiated regions interbonded by cured elastomer.

  • Publication number: 20090033039
Abstract: An asymmetric bead formed in a gasket is provided. The gasket defines a plane. The bead includes a first half emboss portion positioned at a first angle to the plane of the gasket. A bead top portion is positioned parallel to the plane of the gasket and is connected to the first half emboss portion. A second half emboss portion is positioned at a second angle to the plane of the gasket and is connected to the bead top portion. The first angle is greater than the second angle so that the length of the first half emboss portion is shorter than the second half emboss portion and therefore, has a smaller surface area being acted on by a higher pressure fluid on the first half emboss portion so that the forces acting on the first and second half emboss portions are equalized.

  • Publication number: 20070200301
Abstract: A sealing gasket assembly includes one or more carriers each having an offset flexible stopper portion spaced laterally outwardly away from an offset inner sealing portion that is adjacent an opening or other area requiring sealing between mating members adapted to be clamped together. An optional shim can be disposed adjacent to, and aligned with, the carrier. A resilient sealing material is applied to at least portions of the carrier and/or the shim, such as by screen printing, for example. The gasket assembly can be used advantageously in sealing applications such as those for cylinder heads and blocks, intake or exhaust manifolds, piping or other fluid conveying devices, housings, enclosures, or other situations where relative movement can occur between the members to be sealed to each other.

  • Publication number: 20050187325
Abstract: A gasket coating admixture of a silicone polymer blend of diphenyl polysiloxane silanol polymer, methylsiloxane polymer, and powdered particulate of aluminum and/or graphite is cured with zirconium acetate to provide a coating for components such as gaskets. The silicone polymer blend is optionally admixed with any of microspheres, PTFE particles, and inert particulate. The admixtures provide a basis for designed cured coatings having internally differentiated regions interbonded by cured polymer. The coating admixture has especial value in coating gasket carriers to form gasket for use in high temperature environments.

  • Publication number: 20050187331
Abstract: A gasket coating admixture of fluoroelastomer particulate, inert particulate, curing agent, and metallic oxide reduction-agent optionally admixed with any of microspheres, PTFE particles, and ferric oxide is applied to a carrier and cured to provide a coating for components such as gaskets. The admixtures provide a basis for designed cured coatings having internally differentiated regions interbonded by cured elastomer. The coating admixture has especial value in coating gasket carriers to form single component gaskets for internal combustion engines or in coating transmission separator plate interfaces.

Abstract: A sealing gasket includes an offset flexible stopper portion spaced laterally outwardly away from an offset inner sealing portion that is adjacent an opening or other area requiring sealing between mating members adapted to be clamped together. Preferably the gasket includes a single layer carrier onto which a resilient sealing material is applied to at least portions of the carrier, such as by screen printing, for example.
