Abstract: A method and a system is provided for inactivation of Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis Virus (IPNV) comprising illuminating a liquid containing IPNV with a lamp emitting a continuous broad band of ultraviolet (UV) light. The UV lamp may be “tuned” to optimize IPNV inactivation. The lamp may be a medium pressure UV lamp that emits UV light having wavelength between 200-245 nm and preferably, between 200-220 nm. The pressure of the lamp may be greater than 1.6 bar, 3 bar and preferably is 7 bar. The lamp may be composed of PS (synthetic quartz).

A disinfector may include, for example, a conduit to carry a flowing medium to be disinfected, the conduit having an inlet to receive the medium and an outlet to discharge the medium; a flow adapter configured to adapt a flow of the medium at the inlet based on an intended spatial distribution of flow velocities of entities suspended in the medium along a plurality of intended flow paths from the inlet to the outlet; and at least one illumination source to illuminate the conduit with light having a customized spatial light flux distribution, which is based at least in part on the intended distribution of flow velocities. The apparatus includes plurality of markings in accordance with the light beam impinges on the locations to be treated. The apparatus including the plurality of markings may be a cooling apparatus which also cools the skin during the treatment.
