  • Patent number: 5900074
Abstract: The formation on the surface of Mg-containing metal of a highly corrosion-resistant, highly rust-inhibiting, and strongly paint-adherent conversion coating, using a chromic acid free treatment bath, is achieved by treatment with a pH 2.0-5.0 aqueous bath that contains phosphoric acid, manganese ion, and amine, thereby forming a conversion coating that contains P--Mn and Mn--N and/or other nitrogen compounds.

  • Patent number: 5645650
Abstract: The present invention produces a highly corrosion-resistant, highly rust-inhibiting, and strongly paint-adherent conversion coating on the surface of magnesium-containing metals, and does so rapidly and at relatively low temperatures, using a substantially chromium-free conversion treatment bath.

  • Patent number: 5203402
Abstract: A heat exchanger having outer surfaces thereof coated with a hydrophilic coating layer. The hydrophilic coating layer essentially consists of a resin as a base, containing a colloidal silica. In the hydrophilic coating layer, part of silanol groups of the colloidal silica are chemically combined with part of hydroxyl groups of the resin. Due to this chemical combination, the colloidal silica undergoes change in its properties such that it has degraded adsorptivity, making smells less liable to attach to the colloidal silica.

  • Patent number: 4612060
Abstract: A process for controlling the zinc or zinc and nickel content of a zinc phosphate conversion coating solution employs the addition of EDTA and titration with calcium ion using a calcium ion electrode. Preferably to a second sample is added EDTA and a thioglycolate and the same titration conducted to obtain the concentration of nickel ion for direct control purposes.

  • Patent number: 4246865
Abstract: One side surface of a strip of metal is contacted with a surface of a molten metal bath which is locally raised under ultrasonic vibration whereby a continuous coating is attained on one side only.A tool for imparting the ultrasonic vibration to a bath is immersed near the bath surface and the ultrasonic vibrator connected to the tool is contained in hollow holding means dipped in the bath.In accordance with the apparatus of the present invention, the worn tool can be exchanged for a short time and the molten metallic coating on one side only of the strip of metal can be attained for a long time.
