  • Publication number: 20020030690
Abstract: An image is processed by detecting pixel-to-pixel variations in brightness level, generating high spatial frequency information related to the variations, setting interpolation points with a spacing that varies according to the high spatial frequency information, and generating new pixels by interpolation at the interpolation points. By increasing the zoom ratio in one part and reducing the zoom in another part of each edge in a continuous manner, this method can mitigate edge degradation when an image is enlarged or reduced, without introducing discontinuities or other image artifacts. It also provides a convenient way to adjust edge sharpness in an image.

  • Publication number: 20020008710
Abstract: An image display device includes a smoothing unit that filters the image data to be displayed. According to one aspect of the invention, only bright parts of the image that are adjacent to dark parts are smoothed, thereby improving the sharpness of dark dots and lines displayed on a bright background. According to another aspect, different primary colors are smoothed with different characteristics, enabling unwanted colored tinges to be removed from the edges of white areas. According to still another aspect, smoothing moves the luminance centroids of all primary colors in a direction in which the display screen is scanned, to reduce ringing effects without needless loss of edge sharpness.

  • Patent number: 6339452
Abstract: According to an inventive image display device and an image displaying method thereof, a frequency of a synchronizing signal of an image signal is discriminated whether or not it is higher than a preset frequency, the image signal is reduced and outputted based on the discrimination result and an image corresponding to the reduced and outputted image signal is displayed, so that it is possible to reset the frequency of synchronizing signal readily while watching a screen of the display unit even if the synchronizing signal has such high frequency that the image cannot be displayed on the display unit.

  • Patent number: 6292159
Abstract: With a plasma display panel, an object of the present invention is to suppress luminance in black display without deteriorating picture quality and to suppress pseudo contouring of moving picture, while suppressing cost of the plasma display panel. According to a plasma display panel driving method of the present invention, a plurality of discharge sustain periods for displaying equal luminance level are successively defined in a given period in one field to reduce the amount of shift of the center of luminance, and address periods for selecting arbitrary display cells on the screen are comprised of two kinds of address periods: a write address period and an erase address period.

  • Patent number: 6288745
Abstract: There is provided a scanning line interpolation device which is capable of providing an interpolated image with increased reproducibility of vertical high-frequency components in a still picture part. Preceding-field image data is stored in a field memory, and thereafter reference pixels which are located in an interpolation pixel position and its surrounding positions and required for interpolation are extracted from the preceding-field image data stored in the field memory and current-field image data. An inter-field motion judgement portion detects whether or not there is a motion of an image between preceding and current fields based on the extracted reference pixels. If the inter-field motion judgement portion detects that there is a motion, a selection circuit selects in-field interpolation data calculated in an in-field interpolation value calculation circuit from the current-field image data among the reference pixels.

  • Patent number: 5917959
Abstract: The image processing device converts input image data into converted data. A two way buffer in the image processing device stores reference data generated by a converted data generator under the direction of a controller. The two way buffer is then used to generate converted data in response to received image data. Also, depending upon the input device connected to the image processing device, a selector selects one of a plurality of processing characteristics. The selected processing characteristics are used to vary and set a conversion function for converting the image data to produce the converted data.
