Patent number: 7650456Abstract: Conventionally, it has been impossible to use a virtual tape volume having the same volume serial number and different media. A computer implemented virtual tape system enables making definition of a virtual tape volume of another medium with the same volume serial number and definition of a virtual tape magazine of grouped virtual tape in a virtual tape management table. A virtual tape control mounts a virtual tape volume of a virtual tape magazine used in a job or a virtual tape volume on a virtual tape device based on a management table correlating the job with the virtual tape magazine or a command.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2007Date of Patent: January 19, 2010Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Kazumitsu Matsuda, Yoshiaki Shinmura, Takeaki Murakoso, Yasunori Uejima, Hirokazu Tamaki

Patent number: 7372743Abstract: A control method for a nonvolatile storage device having a storage mode in which in a memory cell provided with a trapping dielectric layer 1-bit data is stored depending on the presence or absence of charge in a first trapping region. In a dynamic reference cell initialization operation, a charge accumulation operation is performed, as a preset operation in the initialization operation, on second trapping regions of first and second dynamic reference cells to a charge accumulation operation on a second trapping region of the memory cell. In addition, at the time of data rewrite, preprogram verification and preprogramming are performed on the first trapping regions. This makes it possible to shorten the time taken for initialization and data rewrite.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2006Date of Patent: May 13, 2008Assignee: Spansion, LLCInventors: Masaru Yano, Hideki Arakawa, Mototada Sakashita, Akira Ogawa, Yoshiaki Shinmura, Hajime Aoki

Patent number: 6282672Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program which allows the simultaneous execution of an application that requires input/output of static data not modified by another application after a particularly point in time and another application. The invention provides static data controller which determines whether an application has issued a data input/output request. The static data controller sends the data input/output request issued by the application requiring input/output of static data not modified by another application after a particular point in time to a first external storage device and a data input/output request issued by any other application to a second external storage device.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1999Date of Patent: August 28, 2001Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Toshiyuki Bandoh, Yoshiaki Shinmura, Katsuhisa Miyata, Masakazu Torii, Satoshi Ishikawa

Patent number: 6233727Abstract: A computer system supports the application of a function supplied by OS or utility program. A generating section generates system operation information including job execution history information and file access history information. In accordance with the system operation information, a determining section determines a job or job step to which the function can be applied. In response to a notice from the determining section, a converting section converts an original job control program or job into new job control programs or jobs, and outputs the new job control programs or jobs.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1995Date of Patent: May 15, 2001Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Hirofumi Nagasuka, Yoshiaki Shinmura, Toshiaki Arai

Patent number: 5724500Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of backup sampling of multiwritten storage volumes, by which the backup sampling time is remarkably reduced by taking advantage that the same storage region exists in a plurality of volumes. Data from storage regions differing with respect to respective storage volumes is inputted concurrently and parallel, and the data is outputted to the output volumes according to the following: (a) data are output to the output volumes in the order of these storage regions; (b) data with information indicative of the order of these storage regions are output to the output volumes in the order of the storage regions upon completion of its data input; and (c) data from respective storage regions are output to different corresponding output volumes concurrently and parallel.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1995Date of Patent: March 3, 1998Assignees: Hitachi, Ltd., Hitachi Software Engineering Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yoshiaki Shinmura, Hiroshi Matsui

Patent number: 5625794Abstract: A cache mode selection method and system sets to a cache load inhibit mode a cache mode used for a random access dataset of lower access hit ratio if use ratio of a data transmission path exceeds beyond an upper use ratio limit. It also sets to the cache load inhibit mode the cache mode used by parts of a sequential access dataset. These make it possible to select a proper cache mode depending on state of a load dynamically to prevent an I/O response from decreasing so that the hit ratio can be increased.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 1993Date of Patent: April 29, 1997Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Taro Inoue, Hidenori Umeno, Sadasaburo Kanai, Kazuo Imai, Yoshiaki Shinmura

Patent number: 4980818Abstract: In a complex computer system in which a resource is shared by several computers, the resource is provided therein with a memory for recording the status of the resource. Each computer writes status information of the resource into the memory and also reads the status information in the memory to know the status of the resource. The memory has a record of the latest status of the resource, allowing each computer to know the latest resource status including status information revised by other computers.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1986Date of Patent: December 25, 1990Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventor: Yoshiaki Shinmura
