Abstract: A paper-web holding apparatus is provided in a rotary printing press having rollers which form a path for a paper web fed from a paper web feeding unit to travel along to a folding unit via a press unit and around which the paper web is wrapped. The paper-web holding apparatus includes a rotation restraint mechanism provided for at least one selected roller, and a propeller roller mechanism provided for the selected roller. The rotation restraint mechanism restrain rotation of the roller when the rotary printing press is halted, and allows rotation of the roller when the rotary printing press is operated. The propeller roller mechanism has a pressing member which is advanced toward the roller in order to apply pressing force to the roller at least when the rotary printing press is in a halt state.

Abstract: A paper jam detection system for a folding machine includes an interval signal generator for generating an interval signal which assumes ON and OFF levels alternately according to cutting intervals of a cutting cylinder; a signature detection mechanism including reflection plates each having a light reflection surface and being arranged circumferentially at an outer circumferential surface portion of a jaw cylinder and a photoelectric sensor adapted to generate a reflection plate detection signal upon detection of the reflection plate; and a control unit for outputting a paper jam signal on the basis of the interval signal and the reflection plate detection signal.

Abstract: An automatic deceleration and stoppage controller for a rotary press includes an input unit, a detection unit, a copy-number management unit, a printing-speed detection unit, and a processing unit. The input unit inputs a scheduled copy number indicating the number of signatures to be printed by and discharged from the rotary press. The detection unit detects the signatures discharged from the rotary press and outputs detection signals corresponding to the signatures. The copy-number management stores the scheduled copy number, subtracts from the scheduled copy number the total number of the detection signals successively output from the detection unit to thereby calculate a remaining copy number, and outputs a remaining-copy-number signal representing the remaining copy number. The printing-speed detection unit detects the operation speed of the rotary press and outputs an operation-speed signal representing the operation speed during printing.
