  • Publication number: 20080130647
Abstract: The present invention relates to reducing the time required to provide an IP address to a mobile node by pro-actively obtaining IP addresses, through the use of PANA-assisted pro-active IP address acquisition, IKEv2-assisted proactive IP address acquisition, or by pro-active IP address acquisition using DHCP only. Where a DHCP is used to pre-configure an IP address in an MPA framework, a PAA generates a plurality of Session-Ids, the plurality of Session-Ids is maintained as a pool of Session-Ids, a Session-Id is retrieved from the pool when the PAA sends a PANA-Auth-Request, and providing a pre-generated IP address to an MN reduces pre-authentication time. Where a IKEv2-assisted pro-active IP address acquisition to pre-fetch IP addresses, is used to reduce the time required to provide an IP address to a MN an IP address is obtained from a CTN as part of a standard IKEv2 procedure.

  • Publication number: 20070183365
Abstract: A system for media independent handover using a session identifier in which a session identifier is used for identifying a media independent handover registration session across different MIH transport instances between a pair of communicating MIHFs. A point of service maintains a single registration state for a mobile node across the multiple transport instances. A session identifier is assigned by a point of service at the time of initial registration, and is valid only during the lifetime of the registration. A registration state includes local handles to transport instances that are used when sending and receiving media independent handover messages related to the registration.

  • Publication number: 20070014259
Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of buffering packets for the mobile node at an access router or network node near the edge of the network that the mobile is moving away from or towards. The buffered packets are then forwarded to the mobile node once the handoff process is completed. This invention also relates to the use of buffering packets originating from the mobile node during the handoff process. The buffered packets are then forwarded to their intended destinations once the handoff process is completed. The buffering system is used in conjunction with existing mobility protocols, access protocols, or as an independent network or link layer mechanism.

  • Patent number: 7161942
Abstract: A method for distributing and conditioning IP traffic for mobile networks based on differentiated services, wherein edge/border routers are only required to maintain QoS profiles for related mobile stations. A new IP address or a new service level subscription or service level agreement of an mobile station is only sent to related edge/border routers. As a result, unnecessary IP traffic is significantly reduced. The routers in accordance with methods of the invention disregard the contents of an IP payload and therefore all of the IP addresses that a mobile station may posse. A mobile station is permitted to enter into a domain and obtain a desired quality of service (e.g., Gold or Standard service) without the need to maintain the service while moving through the domain.

  • Patent number: 7120145
Abstract: A node device and a label switched path loop detection method which are capable of detecting a label switched path loop efficiently and quickly are disclosed. In a node device for carrying out the label switching, an ingress node information is included in a message that is to be successively transmitted from the upstream side in order to set up a label switched path, and the fact that the message with the same ingress node information for the same packet flow will be received from a previous hop node that is different from before if the label switched path has a loop formed thereon is utilized. Also, at a time of transmitting a message for the purpose of setting up a label switched path, if a node at which the label switched path for that packet flow already exists on the upstream or downstream side is encountered, this already existing label switched path is traced along the same or opposite direction as the flow, and the label switched path is set up if no loop is detected after tracing to the end.

  • Publication number: 20040098588
Abstract: A system and method are provided for establishing a network communication session using fast authentication. In a network system a client or user device may establish a communication session with a server using full authentication. If the session is interrupted or discontinued and resumption of the session is requested, a session identifier of the previously established session may be compared to the session identifier of the requested session. If a match is detected, the session may be resumed using a fast authentication (or re-authentication) procedure such that the session is resumed more efficiently and expediently. Fast authentication may be performed, for example, even when the first session and the resumed second session are of different authentication layers, different types of network interfaces and/or different locations. Thus, a session, such as a TLS session, may resume functionality among multiple defined authentication protocols or technologies such as 802.1X, PANA or cellular based systems.

  • Patent number: 6609316
Abstract: A packet transfer scheme that applies markings at different levels to packets while they are transferred from their source to destination, in which a marking information at one level will not be lost by a marking at another level is disclosed. A node device receives packets each having a plurality of regions into which priority information can be written, and then transmits each received packet to a next hop node by writing the priority information according to criteria of the own node into one region into which the own node is allowed to write the priority information among the plurality of regions contained in each packet, while maintaining the priority information in other regions as received.

  • Publication number: 20030045270
Abstract: A system and method are provided by which a network operator is able to detect fraudulent use of a subscriber's terminal, regardless of whether or not the subscriber is aware of the fraudulent use of her terminal. Detecting unauthorized terminal use in a wireless network includes recording a history of terminal location and registration patterns, analyzing the recorded history of location and registration patterns of the terminal, monitoring current location and registration patterns of the terminal, and requesting clarification when a deviation between said statistical analysis of the location and registration patterns of said terminal and said current location and registration patterns of said terminal is detected.
