    Abstract: A disk device according to one embodiment includes a magnetic disk, a magnetic head, and a flexible printed circuit board. The flexible printed circuit board is electrically connected to the magnetic head. The flexible printed circuit board includes a first layer, a second layer having conductive property, and a third layer having insulation property. The first layer includes a first surface having insulation property. The second layer overlays the first surface, and includes a first conductor and a second conductor spaced from the first conductor. The third layer covers at least a part of the first surface and at least a part of the second layer. The flexible printed circuit board is provided with a first hole that is located between the first conductor and the second conductor with spacing from the second layer and penetrates the third layer.

A user can visually distinguish the high-density flexible disk drive from a normal-density dedicated flexible disk drive in which a color of a surface of a cover is identical with that of a surface of a body of a front panel. Thus, a large-capacity flexible disk can be correctly inserted into the high-density flexible disk drive without being erroneously inserted into the normal-density dedicated flexible disk drive.

Reading/writing heads 19 which are opposingly disposed on the opposed faces of the upper and lower carriages 36 and 37 are separated from magnetic data recording surfaces 7 of a magnetic data recording medium 6. When the carriage opening/closing member is moved in a direction opposite to the above, the upper and lower reading/writing heads 19 are contacted with the magnetic data recording surfaces 7 by a predetermined load pressure.

    Abstract: A high-density flexible disk capable of accessing a large-capacity flexible disk is provided with a large-capacity detecting switch. The large-capacity flexible disk has a case accommodating a magnetic disk medium, with the case being provided with a write protection hole and a single large-capacity identifier hole formed in a vicinity of the write protection hole for distinguishing the large-capacity flexible disk from a small-capacity and a medium-capacity flexible disk. The large-capacity detecting switch of the high-density flexible disk is provided at a position corresponding to the large-capacity identifier hole for detecting the large-capacity identifier hole when the large-capacity flexible disk is inserted into the high-density flexible disk drive. In a preferred embodiment, the large-capacity detecting switch is integrally formed in a single unit with a write control switch for detecting open and close states of the write protection hole.

A distance h1 is less than a distance h0, where h1 is the distance between said upper and said lower liners at a periphery of the upper and the lower head windows at least on an upstream side of the upper and the lower head windows with respect to a rotating direction of the magnetic disk medium, and h0 is the distance between the upper and the lower liners in a remaining area.

The magnetic recording medium is provided with a rotation supporting hub 18 attached to a center portion thereof. The lower jacket is provided with an opening 15a to expose the hub on its outer surface. The lower liner 14 has an inner peripheral portion 14a extended to a gap 15b between the hub and an edge of the opening to thereby prevent the ingress of the dust through the gap.

The cover unit is provided in an enclosure frame of the disk device. Resilient members are provided between the cover unit and enclosure frame.

The bottom portion is freely inserted in a jacket circular opening of the jacket. The bottom portion has a bottom diameter greater than a medium opening diameter of the medium circular opening. The supporting body has an external diameter which is substantially equal to the bottom diameter of the bottom portion. The supporting body includes a supporting rest for supporting the magnetic recording medium by adhesive bonding at an inner circumferential edge in a lower surface of the magnetic recording medium inside of the bottom portion.
