  • Patent number: 4683715
Abstract: A method of starting a gas turbine plant, which plant has at least one combustor including a primary combustion chamber into which primary fuel nozzles open and a secondary combustion chamber into which secondary fuel nozzles open, a compressor for supplying the combustor with compressed combustion air, and a gas turbine driven by the combustion gas generated in the combustor and adapted to drive a load such as an electric power generator. When the gas turbine is being accelerated to a rated speed or while the load is still below a normal load range, a fuel is supplied only to the primary fuel nozzle, whereas, in other loaded operation range, the fuel is supplied to both the primary and secondary fuel nozzles. Before the fuel supply to the secondary fuel nozzles is commenced, a part of the compressed air is bled through at least one air bleed pipe leading from the compressor and having an air bleed valve.

  • Patent number: 4472936
Abstract: In combustion of gasified fuel by gasifying a low quality fuel and combusting the gasified fuel in a combustor, combustion of gasified fuel is controlled by sampling the gasified fuel at a constant flow rate at the upstream side of the combustor, combusting the sampled gasified fuel, detecting an overall energy level of sensible heat and heating value possessed per unit weight of the gasified fuel on the basis of the combustion temperature of the sampled gasified fuel, and controlling the flow rate of gasified fuel to be led to the combustor in accordance with a fluctuation in the detected overall energy level. Unstable combustion due to a fluctuation in the heating value of the gasified fuel and blow-out due to deficiency of the heating value can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 4429538
Abstract: A gas turbine combustor comprising a combustor inner-pipe for forming a head combustion chamber and a rear combustion chamber having a diameter larger than a diameter of head combustion chamber. A combustor outer-pipe covers the combustor inner-pipe, and a fuel nozzle is disposed at an end part of the head combustion chamber for supplying fuel to said combustor inner pipe. A first group of ports are arranged for swirling and feeding air in an axial direction of the combustor inner-pipe. The first group of ports are around the fuel nozzle. A second group of ports for swirling and feeding air in a radial direction of said combustor inner-pipe are disposed in a side wall of the head combustion chamber near the fuel nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4344280
Abstract: A combustor of a gas turbine including fuel distributing and supplying means including a plurality of sets of fuel nozzles arranged circularly on the head of the combustor and each fuel nozzle being provided with a combustion primary air swirler, and a plurality of fuel supply systems each connected to one fuel nozzle or a plurality of fuel nozzles. One set of fuel nozzles is located inside another set of fuel nozzles and projects further inwardly into the interior of the combustor. The number of the fuel supply systems handling a supply of fuel can be increased or reduced depending on the volume of fuel.

  • Patent number: 4297843
Abstract: A combustor of a gas turbine having a plurality of liners defining combustion chambers, and transition pieces adapted to rectify the flow of the combustion gas discharged from the liners before the combustion gas is introduced to the turbine. A guide plate is disposed in the gap between each pair of adjacent transition pieces near the gas outlets of the latter so as to guide the flow of air to the radially outer surfaces of adjacent transition pieces, thereby to improve the cooling of these surfaces and, at the same time, to mechanically connect the adjacent transition pieces to suppress the vibration of the transition pieces.

  • Patent number: 4297319
Abstract: An apparatus for removing nitrogen oxides from a flue gas comprises a first stage of injecting ammonia in a combustion flue gas and then hydrogen peroxide thereto, thereby decomposing nitrogen oxides in the combustion flue gas to nitrogen and water by gas phase reduction, and a second stage of passing the combustion flue gas leaving the first stage through a bed of catalyst whose temperature is controlled by cooling water passing through a cooling pipe provided through the bed of catalyst, thereby conducting decomposition of excess ammonia exiting from the first stage and further reaction of nitrogen oxides at the same time.

  • Patent number: 4226088
Abstract: A combustor for gas turbines includes a stepped cylindrical tube defining first, second and main combustion spaces. Primary air supply openings are formed in the tube portion defining the first combustion space, secondary air supply openings in the tube portion defining the second combustion space, and diluting air supply openings in the tube portion defining the main combustion space. To achieve effective cooling of the combustion gas within the combustion chamber, particularly in the second combustion space, and especially in the central portion thereof, and at the same time to maintain a stable combustion, the tube is formed so, and the cross-sectional areas of the primary, secondary and diluting air supply openings are dimensioned so, that 25 to 32% of the total amount of air supplied to the combustion chamber are used as primary air in the first combustion space, 38 to 50% as secondary air in the second combustion space, and less than 30% as diluting air in the main combustion space.

  • Patent number: 4131432
Abstract: A reducing agent such as ammonia, urea or hydrazine effecting selective reduction reaction with an exhaust gas from a gas turbine is injected into a duct of the turbine along with water, and at the same time compressed air from a compressor for the turbine is jetted in the duct to atomize the reducing agent. An amount of the water is controlled so that the surrounding temperature will be suitable for reduction of nitrogen oxides of the exhaust gas. The atomized reducing agent flowing in the duct is decelerated by silencers disposed in the duct, especially by a particular arrangement thereof, so that the reducing agent will be in good contact with the exhaust gas to sufficiently reduce the nitrogen oxides. Catalyst layers are used according to kinds of the reducing agent. The catalyst layers are disposed in the silencers or at the positions that the silencers are disposed.
