Abstract: A method of manufacturing a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas, the catalyst including a pentasil-type crystalline aluminosilicate catalyst carrier carrying thereon a copper component and a phosphorus component. The method is characterized by adding the catalyst carrier into a solution containing a copper component and a phosphorus component, or a buffer and having a predetermined pH adjusted with ammonia, and subsequently adding an acid to the solution so as to adjust the pH of the solution to 7.0 or less, to thereby incorporate the copper component and the phosphorus component into the catalyst carrier. According to the present invention, a catalyst for removing exhaust gases which is durable and which has a high NO.sub.X removal factor can be prepared in a stable manner.
