  • Patent number: 4427365
Abstract: A wick assembly for a liquid fuel combustion apparatus is structured by laminating a main wick and an auxiliary wick, and sandwiching a separator of an oil-impermeable material therebetween. By being so structured, the main wick can be made being hardly deteriorated in terms of its calorific value. A material having a large oil containing ability can be selected for the main wick, and distance between the oil level and top of wick can be made shorter. Fire-spreading time of the wick assembly after a lapse of long service period is still as short as that at the beginning of the service, and generation of an objectional odor and carbon monoxide at the time of ignition can be suppressed constantly.

  • Patent number: 4421477
Abstract: A combustion wick comprising a fuel suck-up portion wherein liquid fuel is sucked up and a fuel gasifying portion provided above said fuel suck-up portion is provided wherein of said fuel suck-up and fuel gasifying portions, at least the fuel gasifying portion is formed from silica-alumina type ceramic fibers with an organic binder, with at least a part of said portion being impregnated with a coating material composed principally of an inorganic pigment, silicic anhydride and a surface active agent. By impregnating at least part of the fuel gasifying portion with the coating material, no or little tar-like substance is formed or deposited on the fuel gasifying portion.

  • Patent number: 4365952
Abstract: A liquid fuel burner for burning liquid fuel in the form of a gaseous mixture with air. The liquid fuel burner has a porous member provided at least with a fuel receiving section for receiving the liquid fuel supplied to the burner and a fuel evaporation section from which the liquid fuel is evaporated. An air supplying device is provided for forcibly supplying air to the fuel evaporation section. The rate of air supply is varied by means of a damper or like means. Heating means are provided for maintaining the fuel evaporation section at a substantially constant temperature. The rate of burning is varied while maintaining the air-fuel ratio of the mixture substantially constant, because the rate of evaporation of the fuel is almost in proportion to the rate of supply of air to the fuel evaporation section. The heating means facilitates the evaporation of the fuel and permits a rapid rise and stabilization of burning after ignition.

  • Patent number: 4279589
Abstract: A device comprises a primary combustion space adjacent the fuel vaporizing portion of a porous body exposed thereto, and a secondary combustion space provided downstream from the primary combustion space. Of the primary air supply to the primary combustion space and the secondary air supply to the secondary combustion space, at least the flow of the primary air is regulated by an air regulator to steplessly vary the calorific value while maintaining satisfactory combustion.

  • Patent number: 4229159
Abstract: A device which includes a porous burner head capable of containing a liquid fuel in a liquid state and in which air is supplied to the surface of the burner head to vaporize and burn the fuel contained therein. The burner head is made of a heat-resistant porous material having extending therethrough minute channels which are predominantly up to 100 .mu.m in diameter and give the burner head a porosity of at least 25%. The burner head is capable of raising the liquid fuel at a rate of at least 0.001 g/cm.sup.2.min to a height of up to 70 mm. The use of the burner head assures clean combustion and high combustion efficiency.
