  • Patent number: 4607540
Abstract: A pivotable steering column is adjustable to any of a number of angular positions defined by the teeth of two elements of a first locking device. A manual lever can be raised to disable the first lock and allow selection of a different steering wheel inclination. The steering wheel can be moved to its uppermost position by lowering the manual lever once. In this case, the first lock maintains engagement of the teeth of the aforementioned two element, and a powerful spring pulls the steering column upward to the uppermost position irrespective of the first lock. A second lock then becomes wedged between the pivotable and stationary parts of the steering column, thus holding the former in the uppermost position. Lowering the manual lever a second time disengages the second lock, allowing the steering column tilt cown from the uppermost position. Thus, the steering column returns to an originally set driving position defined by locking engagement of the first lock.

  • Patent number: 4560115
Abstract: An emergency lock safety belt retractor is designed to facilitate release from an inadvertent lock-up which may occur after full-speed retraction of the seat belt. This undesired lock-up is due to a latch mechanism which locks a belt spool in response to either excessively abrupt onset of extraction, such as may occur in front-end automotive accidents, or excessively abrupt cessation of retraction. This latch mechanism has two separate latches: a simple latch pawl biased away from its latched position and a more complicated lock wheel. The latch pawl is mounted on a rotary drum and in its latched position engages teeth on a stationary drum. The lock wheel is coupled for rotation with the belt spool but is free to move axially through three regimes. The lock wheel is biased toward a first axial regime in which it couples the rotary drum to the belt spool.

  • Patent number: 4478432
Abstract: In a passive restraint seat belt structure wherein a seat belt end is fixed to a slider which is movable along a mounting rail, and which is to be fixed to the rear end of the rail when the door of the vehicle is closed, a locking device for fixing the slider is disclosed. The slider is driven by a driver member which is loosely connected to the slider with a certain amount of free play therebetween. When the slider is driven backwards, the driver member is in a first position relative to the slider which allows engagement between an engagement assembly on the slider and an engagement assembly fixed on the body of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4385736
Abstract: A retractor for a seat belt includes a shaft to which a folded, sewed loop portion of the belt end is fastened, and a spool arranged concentrically outside the shaft on which the belt is wound. The spool contains a shaft member having an axially extending slot through which the belt is passed, and an engagement member arranged outside the shaft member to prevent loose winding of the end portion of the belt and consequent slackness in the event of the belt being pulled tight in a collision.

  • Patent number: 4342231
Abstract: A differential pressure transmitter has a pressure receiving portion and a sensor portion which are constituted from separate parts separably jointed with each other. The sensor portion includes a semiconductor sensor having one side formed with a resistance pattern and the other side which has a thick-walled peripheral portion and a thick-walled central portion. The semiconductor sensor is incorporated in the sensor portion as being supported at the thick-walled peripheral portion thereof. The pressure receiving portion includes seal diaphragms disposed on both sides of the pressure receiving portion and a central diaphragm disposed therein. The semiconductor sensor is arranged such that the side thereof carrying the resistance pattern faces the pressure receiving portion.

  • Patent number: 4331304
Abstract: An emergency lock type retractor for a passive safety belt assembly of a vehicle includes a housing (1) mounted on the vehicle body, a reel (3) for the belt (4) rotatably supported by the housing and a ratchet wheel (7) secured to the reel. An inertia device (16) detects an emergent deceleration of the vehicle and causes a pawl (9) to engage with the ratchet wheel to lock the reel and prevent unwinding of the belt. The inertia device includes a first inertia member (19) perpendicularly suspended by the housing to assume a constant angle with respect to the vehicle body. The first inertia member supports a more sensitive second inertia member (22) which displaces relatively to the first inertia member as the vehicle is emergently decelerated. When the mounting angle of the housing varies with respect to the vehicle body, the first inertia member swings to stably maintain the second inertia member at a constant angular position with respect to the vehicle body.

  • Patent number: 4310176
Abstract: A seat belt locking device used with a seat belt arrangement for an automobile vehicle. The locking device locks the seat belt for protecting the driver or passenger from danger when the vehicle is suddenly decelerated in an emergency case such as a collision. The seat belt locking device of the present invention comprises a slidable but unrotatable wedge-shaped seat belt locking member having a pair of roller supporting portions between which a roller is mounted, and a pair of fixed roller shafts the cross section of which is the segment of a circle. The seat belt is so arranged as to pass around the roller of the locking member and the two roller shafts, so that the belt can be firmly caught between the two flat portions of the wedge-shaped seat belt locking member and the respective flat portions of the roller shafts, when the vehicle is suddenly decelerated.
