A line pressure switching section switches the line pressure to a low line pressure in a region in which a higher line pressure is not required in response to a driving state of a vehicle, and switches the line pressure to a high line pressure when a target value of an engagement hydraulic oil pressure exceeds a predetermined pressure. A lubricating regulator valve is provided in a lubricating oil passage connected from the main regulator valve to regulate a hydraulic pressure in the lubricating oil passage to a given pressure in response to a driving state of the vehicle.

The control section derives hydraulic oil, discharged from an oil chamber via a first shift valve, to the first oil discharge passage by means of a second shift valve when it is determined that the driving state is one during normal driving. The control section derives the hydraulic oil to the second oil discharge passage by means of the second shift valve when it is determined that the driving state is one required for rapid lock-up off.

When the throttle angle is detected to be nearly zero by the throttle angle sensor and the running speed is detected to be vary small or zero by the vehicle speed sensor in the condition where the shift position is in a running range, the degree of engagement of the lock-up clutch is controlled to decrease with an increase in the road surface slope by the lock-up clutch control unit.
