  • Patent number: 5225449
Abstract: The present invention provides expandable plastics having a molecular weight of 50,000 to 500,000 which comprises the following structural units (I), (II) and (III) giving a foam having heat resistance and fine structure by heating, the molar ratio of (I+II) to (III) being 1 to 0.6-1.5 and the proportion of (I) being 5 to 50 wt. % of the total components: ##STR1## wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group. When the copolymer, the expandable plastics, of the present invention is used, white foams having a very fine texture are obtained without using special foaming agents, and besides the heat resistance of the foams is high and the amount of water absorbed thereby is little. The foams of the present invention, therefore, can be used in a wide range as soundproofing materials and heat insulators for which the conventional foams cannot be used because of their low heat resistance, and substitutes for honeycomb structures used in airplanes.

  • Patent number: 4831069
Abstract: A spinning solution for acrylonitrile polymers is disclosed, which has a viscosity of 30 to 520 poises (at 50.degree. C.) and which comprises an acrylonitrile polymer having a reduced viscosity of not less than 4.0, a solvent, and water, wherein the water concentration and the polymer concentration fall within the range in the drawing surrounded by straight lines connecting point A (1 wt % and 30 wt % respectively), point B (1 wt % and 10 wt % respectively), and point C (10 wt % and 10 wt % respectively). The spinning solution exhibits satisfactory spinnability in spite of its high polymer concentration and provides void-free acrylonitrile fibers having a highly circular cross-section and excellent mechanical strength.

  • Patent number: 4525537
Abstract: A novel methacrylic resin shaped article is made of novel compositions comprising (A) 80 to 99.9% by weight of methyl methacrylate polymer or copolymer, which forms continuous phase, and (B) 0.1 to 20% by weight of a polymer obtained from at least one unsaturated monomer of the general formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is H or methyl group and R.sub.2 is a hydrocarbon radical of at least two carbon atoms, a derivative or monomer mixture thereof, the respective refractive indexes (n.sub.A) and (n.sub.B) of said (A) and (B) polymers satisfying the relation of 0.998.ltoreq.n.sub.B /n.sub.A .ltoreq.1.002. The above shaped article has a latent mat surface, which therefore may be converted to a mat surface merely by means of stretching at a temperature above heat distortion temperature.
