  • Patent number: 7248543
Abstract: A highly accurate and stable tilt servo system is provided. A liquid crystal device for phase correction is driven based on drive data stored in a lookup memory to thereby make a tilt correction. Upon pre-processing, a pickup is moved to a predetermined position on the inner circumference of a disc for a tilt correction to employ tilt error data delivered from a tilt sensor as reference tilt error data and drive data served for the tilt correction as a reference tilt correction quantity. After the pre-processing, when the pickup is moved, the difference between the tilt error data delivered from the tilt sensor at each position of movement and the reference tilt error data is employed as a relative correction quantity. The drive data equivalent to the relative correction quantity is acquired from the lookup memory. The drive data acquired is added to the reference correction quantity to thereby determine a tilt correction quantity.

  • Patent number: 7230899
Abstract: A rewritable type optical disc includes recording tracks formed with break portions; and recording marks corresponding to predetermined data and formed on the recording tracks. The recording marks are formed over the break portions on the recording tracks. If the predetermined data, such as control data, recorded as the recording mark is illegally altered, the position of the recording marks are changed and some break portions are not covered by the recording marks. Since the return light level of the break portion, which is not covered by the recording mark, is different from the return light level of the break portion covered by the recording mark, such illegal alteration of the predetermined data such as the control data may be detected.

  • Patent number: 7230895
Abstract: A laser beam from a pickup is focused on an information recording medium, such as a DVD-R/RW, to record information. When the power of the laser beam is calibrated, the laser beam emitted from the pickup is received by a light receiving unit such as an FMD. The level of the received laser beam is detected, the power ratio of the laser beam is determined based on the result, and the power of the laser beam is calibrated so that the power ratio matches a predetermined reference power ratio. This method enables information to be recorded with optimum recording characteristic because the reference power ratio shows the power ratio for recording information at the optimum characteristics.

  • Patent number: 7126893
Abstract: An information recording apparatus includes a pickup which irradiates a recording light to a disc on which prepits are formed and which outputs return light quantity data, a period determination circuit which determines a data obtaining period in which return light quantity is not affected by the prepit, a sample-hold circuit which obtains the return light quantity in the data obtaining period, and a microcomputer which controls a recording power based on the return light quantity data. The microcomputer obtains the return light quantity data in the data obtaining period in which the return light quantity is not affected by the prepit, and executes control including the recording power control based on the return light quantity data. As a sample-hold circuit detects a pit level and the like in a 9T to 11T period which is hardly affected by the LPP and controls the recording power based on the result, proper recording power control can be executed.

  • Patent number: 7088663
Abstract: The apparatus records information by irradiating a laser beam onto a recording medium and forming marks on the disc. Prior to the actual recording, the controller performs a test recording in which predetermined test recording data is recorded on the recording medium. In the test, data is recorded by generating a recording pulse signal based on the recording data and thereby driving a light source. While the test recording is performed, the level of a cooling pulse in the recording pulse signal is varied. Then, the test recorded data is reproduced to generate a reproduced signal. A waveform of the reproduced signal is evaluated, and a cooling level that provides a target asymmetry value is set as an optimum cooling level. Thus, the subsequent actual recording can be performed according to the optimum cooling level determined based on characteristics of the recording medium to be used for the actual recording.

  • Publication number: 20040222975
Abstract: The object of the present invention is to provide an digital personal assistant with easy operationality when transitioning operation pages. A variety of operation pages can be displayed selectively on a liquid crystal display panel 12 having a touch panel 12a. A control switch 13 is supported to be able to be rotated in a predetermined angle range and pushed-in at the reference position of said rotation. An operation signal is sent out in response to the turn or push in operation of the control switch. A CPU 21 judges whether the touch panel is touched or the control switch is operated. When it is judged that the touch panel is touched, the CPU allows the first page transition to be done whereby the operation page displayed on the liquid crystal display panel is transitioned in accordance with the touch operation.

  • Publication number: 20040037191
Abstract: A pickup device has various controlled elements such as a light source and a sensor which need to be electrically controlled. The controlled elements are connected with an in-pickup control element via internal signal lines and are controlled by control signals supplied from the in-pickup control element. The in-pickup control element is connected with an external microcomputer via a connector and an external signal line and receives a control signal or the like from the microcomputer. With this structure, the controlled elements in the pickup device are basically controlled, not by the external microcomputer, but by the in-pickup control element. Therefore, the signal lines for supplying the control signals to the controlled elements can be short signal lines only in the pickup.
