  • Patent number: 4845132
Abstract: A hydrophilic porous membrane has graft chains of a hydrophilic monomer formed on the surface of a hydrophobic porous membrane so as to impart to the surface perfect hydrophilicity such that the produced membrane, when wetted, exhibits a swelling ratio of not more than 1% and a bubble point in the range of 0.5 to 8 kg/cm.sup.2. The hydrophilic porous membrane is produced by irradiating the hydrophobic porous membrane with plasma, feeding the hydrophilic monomer in a gaseous state, and allowing the hydrophilic monomer to be graft polymerized on the surface of the porous membrane. A plasma separator is obtained by using the aforementioned hydrophilic porous membrane as a plasma separation membrane.

  • Patent number: 4691005
Abstract: A polymer composition having poly-[2,5-(3-ethylthienylene)] doped with an anion is obtained by electrochemically polymerizing 3-ethylthiophene in an anion-containing salt as an electrolyte. Poly-[2,5-(3-ethylthienylene)] is obtained by electrochemically reducing the polymer composition thereby removing the anion therefrom. The aforementioned polymer composition and poly-[2,5-(3-ethylthienylene)] are novel substances.

  • Patent number: 4336211
Abstract: The invention provides a novel method for obtaining a shaped article of a vinyl chloride-based resin which is markedly insusceptible to the undesirable phenomenon of exudation or bleeding of the plasticizer and other additive ingredients contained therein on to the surface of the article. The method comprises formulating the resin composition for the fabrication of the shaped article with an epoxy compound containing, preferably, at least 2% by weight of the oxirane oxygen in the molecule in an amount of at least 0.05% by weight based on the vinyl chloride-based resin and irradiating the shaped article with ultraviolet light having a substantial energy distribution in the wavelength region of 200 nm or shorter. The shaped article obtained by the inventive method is remarkably insusceptible to the plasticizer bleeding even after prolonged outdoor exposure or irradiation with ultraviolet light having wavelengths longer than 290 nm.

  • Patent number: 4261806
Abstract: The invention provides an effective method for subjecting the inner surface of a tubular body made of a plastic resin to a treatment with low temperature plasma according to which the tubular body is dipped in an insulating oil bath while the inside of the tubular body is filled with a plasma gas under a reduced pressure and electric power for the generation of a low temperature plasma is supplied to electrodes surrounding the tubular body in the insulating oil. Several of the problems in the prior art methods can be solved by the present invention such as undesirable thermal degradation of the tube surface by the evolved by the electric discharge, and power loss due to the generation of plasma outside the tubular body.
