  • Publication number: 20060035558
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a high pressure mercury lamp having a high pressure resistance strength includes an electric field application step of applying an electric field to at least a light emitting part while keeping the high pressure mercury lamp at a high temperature. As a result of the electric field application step, impurities such as hydrogen and an alkali metal existing in a discharge space and in glass used for forming the light emitting part (1) and sealing parts (2) can be reduced, with it being possible to suppress blackening and devitrification during lighting.

  • Publication number: 20040256991
Abstract: A discharge lamp 50 comprises a luminous bulb 10 in which a luminous material 18 is encapsulated and a pair of electrodes 12 are arranged to be opposed to each other, and sealing parts (11a, 11b) that are formed at both ends of the luminous bulb 10 and in which metal foil structures 13 electrically connected to the pair of electrodes 12, respectively, are sealed. At least one of the metal foil structures 13 is composed of a first metal foil 13a, a second metal foil 13b and a metal bar 21 coupling both of them. At least one sealing part 11b of the sealing parts includes a cavity 20 around the position where in the sealing part the metal bar 21 is located, and at least a rare gas is encapsulated in the cavity 20.

  • Patent number: 6817920
Abstract: A discharge lamp electrode, a discharge lamp for which the electrode is used, and a method for producing a discharge lamp electrode with increased productivity are disclosed. With the disclosed discharge lamp electrode, deformations in its end portion are suppressed, so that the electrode life is extended. For the discharge lamp electrode 106, tungsten wires are wound around an electrode rod 111 in the same turning direction and form a first-layer coil 112 and a second-layer coil 113. A tungsten wire forming the second-layer coil 113 is wound along a spiral valley between adjacent turns in the first-layer coil 112.

  • Publication number: 20040189208
Abstract: A high-pressure mercury lamp is provided that includes a transparent envelope made of quartz glass, in which mercury, halogen, and a rare gas are sealed and a pair of electrodes provided in the transparent envelope. The amount of the halogen sealed in the transparent envelope is in the range from 1.0×10−6 &mgr;mol/mm3 to 1.0×10−2 &mgr;mol/mm3, and 2.5 mol % to 25 mol % of oxygen with respect to the amount of the halogen is present in the transparent envelope. The high-pressure mercury lamp can prevent blackening of an inner wall of the transparent envelope from occurring over a long period of lighting without deteriorating the startability or lamp characteristics, thus achieving a long life.

  • Patent number: 6306002
Abstract: A lamp made of a tube having a light emission portion glass and a side tube portion glass that extends in the light emission portion glass. The lamp has a sealed electrode assembly having an electrical current supply line with one end portion connected to a metal foil. A first portion of the side tube portion where an electrical current supply line is located is heated and this portion is compressed by a first pressure. A second portion of the side tube portion where a metal foil is located is heated and this portion is compressed by a second pressure. The second pressure is made larger than the first pressure.

  • Patent number: 6296786
Abstract: A treated waste has been treated so as to prevent diffusion of a substance to be disposed, of e.g., radionuclide “I”, that tends to occur when the waste is disposed of in reducing environment at an ultra-deep underground. The treated waste has a low-resolution compound containing “I”, e.g., “AgI”, and a high oxygen potential agent having a higher oxygen potential than the compound, e.g., “Fe2O3”. Ionization of the substance to be disposed, attributable to reduction of the compound, can be suppressed over a long time.
