  • Patent number: 5560253
Abstract: A shift lever assembly for a manual transmission is disclosed. A boss of a shifting lever is supported for rotation by a shift shaft on a lever retainer. A boss of a selecting lever is supported for rotation by a support shaft parallel to the shift shaft on the lever retainer. A boss of a shift lever is supported for selecting operation about a select shaft at right angles to the shift shaft on the shifting lever. Shifting operation of the shift lever is transmitted via a select arm and an end ball portion thereof to an engagement portion of the selecting lever to cause rotation of the selecting lever about the axis of the support shaft. The shift lever is formed integrally with its boss, the select arm and the ball portion.

  • Patent number: 4683771
Abstract: A gear-teeth protector for a change-speed gearing unit in which a pair of upper and lower change-speed gears of high meshing rate are arranged adjacent to an upright wall in a housing for the gearing unit. The gear-teeth protector comprises a U-shaped shroud member secured at its outer peripheral flanges to one face of the upright wall so as to prevent metallic alien particles being trapped between the change-speed gears, the shroud member forming a pair of side walls enclosing the teeth on the upper change-speed gear and extending adjacent to the upper teeth on the lower change-speed gear to enclose the meshing engagement portion between the two change-speed gears.

  • Patent number: 4359909
Abstract: A transmission comprising a housing having one and the other longitudinal end walls. An input shaft is rotatably supported by a bearing in the one longitudinal end wall. A bearing retainer having therein an opening through which the input shaft extends is mounted on the outer surface of the one longitudinal end wall and cooperates with the bearing to define a chamber. A seal member is disposed between the opening and the input shaft within the chamber. An oil receiver is disposed within the housing adjacent to an input gear mounted on the input shaft and in mesh with a counter gear mounted on a counter shaft. Lubricating oil within a reservoir at the bottom of the housing is scooped up by the counter gear and is received by the receiver. The oil is introduced through a passage from the receiver into the chamber to lubricate the bearing and the seal member.

  • Patent number: 4347756
Abstract: A transmission comprising a housing having one and the other longitudinal end walls. The other longitudinal end wall includes an upper wall section and a lower wall section offset from the upper wall section toward the one longitudinal end wall to define a step surface between the upper and lower wall sections. A counter shaft has one and the other axial ends rotatably supported in the one longitudinal end wall and by the bearing, respectively. A chamber is formed in the lower wall section with the bearing exposed to the chamber. A passage communicates the step surface and the chamber with each other to introduce lubricating oil from the step surface into the chamber for lubricating the bearing.

  • Patent number: 4132123
Abstract: In a remote-control gearshift mechanism for a vehicle of the type including a control shaft extended in parallel with a steering column and movable in the axial direction and rotatable about its axis by a gearshift lever, a linkage for transmitting the axial and rotary movements of said control shaft to a transmission, a first spring loaded over the lower portion of said control shaft for normally biasing said control shaft upward to its neutral position which corresponds to a position intermediate between the ends of the stroke of said control shaft in the axial direction, a second spring loaded over the upper portion of said control shaft for normally biasing said control shaft downward to its neutral position, and stopper means for limiting the spring action of said each spring independently of each other in such a manner that said control shaft may be prevented from moving past its neutral position, whereby shift-lever-action feeling may be improved.

  • Patent number: 4094206
Abstract: A gear transmission with overtop or overdrive for automotive vehicles includes an overdrive gear mechanism mounted immediately after the rear end wall of a transmission case. The overdrive gear mechanism includes a pair of overdrive gears, one located on the output shaft of the gear transmission and the other on the countershaft of the gear transmission, operable to rotate the output shaft at a higher rotational speed than the input shaft. An overdrive synchronizer assembly is mounted rearwardly of the overdrive gears such that the direction for actuating the overdrive synchronizer assembly coincides with the direction that a gear shift lever of the vehicle is shifted to obtain the overdrive position.
