  • Publication number: 20070253889
Abstract: The invention provides a process for production of carbon nanotubes whereby a laminate prepared by alternating lamination of a metal catalyst and a material other than the metal catalyst is cut to expose the laminated structure, and carbon nanotubes are grown on the metal catalyst at the cut surface of the laminate. The process results in high-quality carbon nanotubes, with minimized bundle growth, which are each individually and independently arranged in a highly precise manner at prescribed locations. The invention also provides a carbon nanotube production process comprising a step of preparing a substrate which is inclined in one or two dimensions from a specific highly symmetrical crystal orientation and vapor depositing a metal catalyst along the atomic steps appearing on the surface of the substrate, and a step of growing the carbon nanotubes by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) using the metal catalyst as nuclei.

  • Publication number: 20070196019
Abstract: A partial image is cut out from an input image. A first classifier judges whether the partial image includes a face facing a direction within a first angular range. Another classifier judges whether the partial image includes a face facing a direction within another angular range that partially overlaps with the first angular range. The partial image is judged to include a face facing a direction within a specific angular range, which is the first angular range from which the portion that overlaps with the other angular range has been removed, if the first classifier judges that the image includes a face facing a direction within the first angular range, and the other classifier judges that the image does not include a face facing the second angular range. Each classifier is generated by machine learning, and judges whether images include faces facing directions corresponding to predetermined angular ranges.

Abstract: The invention concerns safe non-interacting drug combinations of a 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor, which is (E)-7-[4-(4-fluorophenyl)-6-isopropyl-2-[methyl(methylsulfonyl)amino]pyrimidin-5-yl] (3R,5S)-3,5-dihydroxyhept-6-enoic acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof (the Agent) and a drug which is either an inducer, inhibitor or a substrate of cytochrome P450, in particular cytochrome P450 isoenzyme 3A4. Particular combinations are useful in treating hyperlipidaemia in humans who are receiving immunosuppressive chemotherapy. A preferred combination is the Agent and a fibrate drug, the use of such a combination in treating hyperlipidaemia in mammals, and medicaments containing such a combination for use in such treatments.

  • Publication number: 20050266568
Abstract: A molecule-releasing apparatus includes a releasing unit configured to release molecules, wherein the releasing unit comprises at least one conductive member and releases molecules electrically interacting with the conductive member to which a potential is applied, from the conductive member by changing the potential so as to remove the interaction. In a moleculue-releasing method, molecules electrically attracted to two or more conductive members are released by electrical repulsion from the conductive members at different times. The molecule-releasing apparatus and molecule-releasing method are capable of efficiently releasing or transferring various useful molecules such as DNA molecules, into targets such as cells and can be safely applied for use in gene therapy and other applications.

  • Patent number: 4733249
Abstract: A printer and method of printing on a transfer medium utilizing thermoplastic magnetic ink. A thermal head selectively applies thermal energy to melt selected portions of the thermoplastic magnetic ink. A magnetic head substantially spatially fixed relative to the thermal head applies the magnetic force to the thermoplastic ink which causes the melted portions to be ejected onto the transfer medium. A strip of thermoplastic magnetic ink medium is positioned to slide between the thermal head and the transfer medium. The strip includes a base layer facing the thermal head and a magnetic thermoplastic ink layer facing the transfer medium. A first movement mechanism moves either the transfer medium or the thermal and magnetic heads relative to the other at a first speed. A second movement mechanism moves the magnetic thermoplastic ink medium strip relative to the magnetic and thermal heads at a second speed. The first and second speeds are unequal.

  • Patent number: 4684563
Abstract: In an electrothermal transfer system which uses a sheet formed by integrally binding at least a resistive layer and an ink layer and effects desired transfer by flowing electric current through the resistive layer thereby causing the resistive layer to generate joulean heat and enabling the ink layer to be partially fused to be transferred, an electrothermal transfer recording sheet has the resistive layer formed by application of a mixture of carbon black with a resin binder. The carbon black used herein is possessed of a DBP oil absorption capacity of not less than 300 ml/100 g. Thus, the carbon black content in the resistive layer can be as small as 5 to 35% by weight, the tight adhesiveness of the resistive layer improved, and the power consumption lowered.
