  • Patent number: 5964277
Abstract: A molten metal is poured in a molten metal storage portion (50) formed between a pair of cooling drums (1, 1') which rotate in opposite directions to each other and a thin metal plate (40) is discharged downward thereof. A casting operation is performed while shot particles (30) are being blasted by a shot particles blasting device (15) from at least two positions onto an entire widthwise outer circumferential surface (2) of each cooling drum (1, 1') so as to form dimples on the circumferential surface (2), thereby preventing the occurrence of cracks in the cast piece (40). Also, a brushing device (5) is disposed in abutting relation on the outer circumferential surface (2) of the cooling drum (1, 1') in order to clean the surface (2).

  • Patent number: 5848635
Abstract: A continuous casting device includes a pair of cooling rolls (1, 2) that rotate in opposite directions to each other. A pair of side weirs (11) have inner surfaces (11a) that covers the end surfaces (1a, 2a) of the cooling rolls (1, 2) and circular surfaces (12b) that covers the peripheral surfaces (1b, 2b) of the cooling rolls (1, 2). At least one of the side weirs (11) is movable in an axial direction of the cooling rolls (1, 2). The continuous casting device also includes electromagnets for forming a magnetic flux in a direction parallel with a contact surface of the side weirs (11) with the molten metal (4) the contact surface extending along the peripheral surfaces (1b, 2b) of the cooling rolls (1, 2) at the portions opposite to the peripheral surfaces (1b, 2b) of the cooling rolls (1, 2) of the side weirs (11).

  • Patent number: 5588582
Abstract: A cooling drum can continuously cast a favorable band-shaped cast piece having little thermal deformation. The cooling drum comprises a three-layer structure including a rigid member, a cooling member metallurgically bonded to the outside of the rigid member, and a heat-resistance member plated by electro-deposition on the outer circumferential surface of the cooling member. The rigid member is made of austenite group stainless steel, the cooling member is made of Cu or Cu-alloy, and the heat-resistance member is made of either Ni or its alloy or Co or its alloy.

  • Patent number: 5560421
Abstract: A twin drum type continuous casting apparatus is provided for continuously feeding molten metal into a cast portion defined by a pair of water cooling drums that are rotated in opposite directions to each other, thereby continuously casting a plate-like cast piece. A thin portion is formed close to an outer circumferential portion of each of opposite end portions, in a width direction, of each of the water cooling drums. A thin annular member having a hot water flow passage therein is formed in between the thin portion and a shaft with a space relative to an end face of each of the water cooling drums.

  • Patent number: 5469909
Abstract: A cooling drum which can continuously cast a favorable band-shaped cast piece having little thermal deformation and a method for manufacturing the same cooling drum, are disclosed. The cooling drum comprises a three-layer structure consisting of a rigid member, a cooling member metallurgically bonded to the outside of the rigid member, and a heat-resistance member plated by electro-deposition on the outer circumferential surface of the cooling member. The rigid member is made of austenite group stainless steel, the cooling member is made of Cu or Cu-alloy, and the heat-resistance member is made of either Ni or its alloy or Co or its alloy. Within the rigid member are equipped partition walls and tubular partition walls. To the opposite end portions of the rigid member are connected hollow shafts adapted to be rotationally driven, by means of bolts after shrinkage fitting.

  • Patent number: 5400849
Abstract: The present invention provides a twin-drum type continuous casting apparatus in which, when a side weir is vibrated at a high speed, vibrations of the side weir in the axial direction of the cooling drums is suppressed. The generation of run-out from a cast piece is prevented, and the elongation of the lives of the side weirs and the refractory materials is made possible. A pair of side weirs vibrating along end surfaces of cooling drums are characterized in that a support shaft serving as a center of rotation of the vibrations of the side weirs is disposed lower than the molten metal surface and higher than a minimum gap position of the cooling drums. A vibration exciting shaft for applying vibration to the side weir is disposed lower than the above-mentioned minimum gap position.
