Abstract: A sliding-type portable terminal is provided. The sliding-type portable terminal includes a first housing, a second housing sliding in a longitudinal direction of the first housing while facing the first housing, and an elastic member including a helical coil and free ends. The free ends extend from the coil in a direction away from each other and the elastic member provides an elastic force in a direction to move the free ends away from each other, in which the coil is interposed between the first housing and the second housing. An end of one of the free ends is rotatably supported on a first face of the first housing, and another of the free ends is extended toward the inside of the second housing and rotatably supported on an inner surface of the second housing. The sliding-type portable terminal has an advantage in that each of the free ends is located in one of the housings, by which the thickness of the terminal can be easily reduced and a space for a flexible printed circuit is easily ensured.

Abstract: A video data display system and method for a mobile terminal that enable capturing video data of a predetermined length and displaying the captured video data in multiple windows on a single display screen. The video data may be presented as a slide show. The video data display method includes capturing an object video data of an audiovisual data stream displayed on a screen; dividing the object video data into a predetermined number of pictures; and displaying the pictures in different windows of the screen.

Abstract: A system, method and apparatus for providing digital broadcasting using a PIP function of a portable terminal. The method includes: transmitting a request message based on additional broadcasting information; receiving an entitlement management message (EMM) corresponding to the request message; and decrypting the EMM, displaying pay-per-view broadcasts while displaying advertisements through the PIP screen, simultaneously. The system and apparatus are configured to perform the method. Therefore, users can view pay-digital broadcasts for free, as advertising is broadcasted through the PIP screen during the pay-digital broadcasts. The broadcasting service providers can apportion charges to one or more sponsors corresponding to advertisement view times recorded in a billing server.

Abstract: A device and method for executing a reserved function using time information extracted from a broadcasting data that provides a correct time in asynchronous mobile communication terminal are provided. The method of executing a reserved function in a mobile communication terminal includes: when a broadcasting function is executed, performing (1) extracting a time information from received broadcasting data, (2) calculating a time difference between a time of the extracted time information and a corresponding operating time of the mobile communication terminal, and (3) storing the calculated time difference as a time difference information; and if a reservation time for executing a specific function is set and when the operating time reaches the set reservation time based on the stored time difference information, executing the specific function.

Abstract: An apparatus for detachably installing a smart card, such as a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card, in a portable terminal is provided. The apparatus includes an opening on the portable terminal, a sliding member slidably coupled to the terminal to move in and out of the opening, and a cover on an end portion of the sliding member to open and close the opening as the sliding member slides. The SIM card is placed on the sliding member to move in and out of the opening through a sliding movement of the sliding member. The apparatus prevent damage to the SIM card when it is detachably installed in the portable terminal through the sliding movement of the sliding member.

Abstract: A fast channel switching method and apparatus for a digital broadcast receiver that can reduce a channel switching delay caused by limitations in real time broadcasting systems is provided. A fast channel switching method of the present invention includes simultaneously receiving broadcast signals of a first service channel and a second service channel; presenting the broadcast signal of the first service channel through a player; and circular-buffering the broadcast signal of the second service channel. A digital broadcast receiver using a fast channel switching technique of the present invention can buffer an adjacent service channel while serving the current service channel such that the buffered broadcast signal is output when the adjacent channel is selected, thereby reducing a channel switching delay.

Abstract: A head set device includes an antenna housing, a speaker housing connected to the antenna housing while protruding from one face of the antenna housing, and a hinge device for rotatably combining the speaker housing to the antenna housing. The speaker housing rotates with respect to a rotation axis that extends outwardly from one face of the antenna housing. The antenna housing and the speaker housing are rotatably connected together using a hinge device, thereby allowing the user to selectively wear the head set device on either ear and thus facilitating the use of the head set device.

The hinge device includes a first hinge cam fixed to one of the housings of the portable terminal and a second hinge cam fixed to the other one of the housings of the portable terminal. The first hinge came has a cam groove on a surface, and the second hinge cam is rotatably received in the cam groove to generate friction with an inner wall of the cam groove. The hinge device has a reduced length and can occupy a smaller area in the portable terminal. Further, the hinge device allows the separate housing to be installed to the portable terminal while maintaining the shape of the portable terminal so that the separate housing slidably moves, thereby allowing increased design flexibility for the portable terminal. Furthermore, since the hinge device requires a small space in the portable terminal, the design specifications of the portable terminal may be easily changed.

An auxiliary display unit which is always exposed to the outside is provided on the upper surface of the first portion of the body, and the second portion of the body is recessed from the first portion of the body by a certain depth. A folder including a main display unit is connected to the body by a hinge to open and close the second portion. When the folder is folded onto the second portion, it is substantially parallel to the first portion.

Abstract: An inter-processor communication method and apparatus for a mobile communication system are disclosed. Initially, a transmitting module receives a message transmission request from a connectionless-oriented user. The request includes a message and a destination address of the message. Next, the module determines whether any one of currently existing sockets, whose file descriptors are stored in a socket management database, is connected to the destination address. Finally, the module sends a connection request to a connection manager in order to be connected to a TCP layer if none of the existing sockets are connected to the destination address. As a result, a connectionless-oriented user is able to send/receive a message to/from another user using a transmission control protocol that provides connection-oriented data transmission services.

Abstract: A washing machine having a dual damping structure can effectively prevent undesirable vibration of an outer tub by lowering the center of gravity of outer tub depending on a quantity of washing objects to stabilize the outer tub. A first damping part having a cap and a first spring is installed on the other end of a supporting rod, and dampens longitudinal vibration of the supporting rod. A second damping part having a slider and a second spring is integrally formed on a lower periphery of the outer tub. Also, there is provided a connecting means connecting the first damping part with the second damping part so as to transmit the vibration of the second damping part into the first damping part.
