  • Patent number: 6834047
Abstract: There is provided a data communication apparatus and method in a multi-carrier CDMA communication system. A transmitting device determines whether a supplemental channel is transmitted. If the supplemental channel is transmitted, the transmitting device assigns the supplemental channel to each of all FAs having different carrier frequency bands and the other channels including a fundamental channel, a dedicated control channel, and a common control channel to one of the FAs. A receiving device determines whether the supplemental channel exists in input channel signals. If the supplemental channel exists, the receiving device despreads supplemental channel signals in each of the FAs, connects the despread supplemental channel signals to a supplemental channel decoder, despreads the other channels in one of the FAs, and connects the other channel signals to corresponding channel decoders.

  • Patent number: 6822998
Abstract: A noise power measuring system and method for a base station receiver are disclosed. In the system and method, a received signal is despread and the noise power of the despread received signal is estimated. An orthogonal code generator generates a noise power measurement orthogonal code, which is orthogonal to all the orthogonal codes presently being used by the mobile station. A correlator connected to the orthogonal code generator performs a correlation operation between the noise power measurement orthogonal code and the despread received signal. A noise power measurer connected to the correlator, measures the noise power from the output of the correlator.

  • Publication number: 20040176043
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for determining a forward data rate and a forward transmission power level in a mobile communication system. An access terminal measures a C/I of a forward pilot channel, determines a forward data rate by matching the measured C/I with a reference C/I, creates a difference between the measured C/I and the reference C/I as margin information, and transmits the determined forward data rate and margin information over a reverse transmission channel. Upon receipt of the forward data rate and margin information, an access network decreases a transmission power level by power corresponding to the margin information and performs forward transmission at the forward data rate at the decreased transmission power level.

  • Publication number: 20030081572
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for performing power control on a reverse channel quality indicator channel (CQICH) received from a mobile station by a base station in a mobile communication system including the base station for transmitting a power control bit for power control on reverse channels and the mobile station for controlling transmission power of the reverse channels according to the power control bit. An erasure detector determines whether to perform an erasure process by measuring reception power of the reverse channel quality indicator channel. An erasure rate calculator accumulates the erasure-determined result for N slots and calculates an erasure rate for the N slots. A control bit generator determines a ratio control bit to be transmitted to the mobile station according to the erasure rate, to issue a command to increase or decrease a CQICH traffic-to-pilot ratio.

  • Publication number: 20020021692
Abstract: There is provided a method and apparatus for transmitting/receiving data rate control (DRC) information in a mobile telecommunication system for transmitting packet data. To determine a data rate on the forward link in a mobile telecommunication system such as an HDR system, DRC information is transmitted on the reverse link only in time for scheduling user data. An access network (AN) transmits a DRC request indicator (DRI) bit or an access terminal (AT) detects preambles of all users or its own preamble in order to control transmission of the DRC information. Along with the DRC information transmission control, some ATs are controlled to transmit pilot channels and RRI channels at different time points from other ATs. Therefore, interference load on the reverse link is reduced and the system capacity of the reverse link is increased.

  • Publication number: 20020018446
Abstract: A method of adapting a mobile telecommunication system to channel conditions. To control transmission of a data packet from an access network (AN) in both a link adaptation scheme and an ARQ (Automatic Repeat reQuest) scheme, an access terminal (AT) compares the received power of a forward pilot signal received from the AN with a predetermined first threshold, checks errors in the data packet of a received time slot if the reception power is greater than the first threshold, and transmits a signal requesting termination of retransmission of the data packet to the AN if no errors are found in the data packet after decoding.
