Abstract: A storage system prevents the destruction of data stored in logical volumes when the same ID for logical volumes is assigned to a plurality of logical volumes. The storage system stores virtual ID management information including, the virtual ID, a storage device ID identifying the storage device including the logical volume assigned to the virtual ID, and usage permission information indicating whether to permit assigning the virtual ID to the logical volume and using the logical volume. The storage system does not execute the logical volume usage processing which uses the usage target logical volume, when the storage system determines not to permit using the logical volume based on a usage target virtual ID assigned to the usage target logical volume which is target of use, the usage target storage device ID of the usage target storage device including the usage target logical volume, and virtual ID management information.
