  • Patent number: 10836255
Abstract: An on-board monitoring and event detection system for a machine includes a powertrain. A vibration sensor adjacent one of a rotating component of the powertrain is configured to generate raw vibration data. A sensor controller is configured to receive the raw vibration data and generate condition indicators. At least one of a speed sensor, a torque sensor, a pressure sensor, or a temperature sensor, is operatively associated with the powertrain. A controller is distinct from the sensor controller and is configured to receive the condition indicators, and receive sensor signals from the at least one sensor and wherein the condition indicators and the sensor signals define operating characteristics of the powertrain. The controller is further configured to compare the operating characteristics of the powertrain to an event threshold and generate an event response if the operating characteristics exceed the event threshold for a time period exceeding a time threshold.

  • Patent number: 10783721
Abstract: A monitoring and diagnostics system for a machine having a plurality of rotating components includes a powertrain with a plurality of rotating components and a vibration sensor. The vibration sensor include a vibration sensor element and a sensor controller. The vibration sensor is disposed adjacent one of the plurality of rotating components. The vibration sensor element is configured to generate raw vibration data indicative of vibrations of the vibration sensor element. The sensor controller is configured to access a vibration threshold, access a time threshold, receive the raw vibration data from the vibration sensor element, generate condition indicators based upon the raw vibration data; compare the condition indicators to the vibration threshold, and if the condition indicators exceed the vibration threshold for a time exceeding the time threshold, transmit a predetermined amount of raw vibration data to a remote system remote from the machine.

  • Patent number: 9562602
Abstract: A bearing for a gearbox, the bearing having a cylindrical body. The cylindrical body defines a hollow interior chamber. The cylindrical body has a gear supporting section. The gear supporting section has a cross-section formed by three lobes equally distributed around a circumference of the cylindrical body. Each of the lobes has a land portion having a first radius over at least 20% of the lobe. Each lobe also has a tapered portion that gradually slopes from the first radius of the land portion to a reduced radius region that is smaller than the first radius. The tapered portion is formed over less than 80% of each lobe. Each lobe also has an opening formed in the reduced radius region and a flow passage fluidly connecting the hollow interior of the cylindrical body with the opening formed in the reduced radius region.

  • Patent number: 9109628
Abstract: A journal bearing is provided for mounting a gear component thereon and for reducing vibrations from operation of the gear component. The journal bearing includes a cylindrical body having two recessed portions defined thereon. The journal bearing further includes a primary passage extending longitudinally through the cylindrical body, and two secondary passages radially extending from the primary passage to the recessed portions. An angle of the two secondary passages with respect to a horizontal plane of the journal bearing is based on at least one of a magnitude and direction of a pre-determined bearing load, a rotational speed of the gear component, a clearance between the journal bearing and the gear component, oil properties, wherein the oil is introduced between the journal bearing and the gear component, and one or more system stability parameters.
