  • Patent number: 5661834
Abstract: There is provided an optical semiconductor module of a receptacle type having an optical semiconductor element, a housing for supporting said optical semiconductor element and a ferrule bore formed in said housing and engaged with a ferrule of an optical fiber connector, and a sleeve formed separately from said housing as a cylindrical member having an inner bore and fixed to the inside of said housing so as to enable said inner bore to be employed as said ferrule bore. The optical semiconductor module can be prepared with ease and with highly accurate dimensions.

  • Patent number: 5127074
Abstract: An optical package includes a housing composed of two sections, a first section and a second section connectable to the first section. A laser holder is connected to the first section of the housing and adapted to hold a laser assembly. A fiber holder is connected to the second section of the housing and includes a ferrule by which an optical fiber is held. A rod lens is mounted within the housing to focus optical emission from the laser assembly on the optical fiber. The laser assembly includes a semiconductor element. Radial alignment of the semiconductor element and the laser holder is performed before the laser holder is secured to the first section of the housing. Axial alignment of the rod lens and the semiconductor element takes place while the laser holder is being fit in the first section of the housing. The second section of the housing is then moved in a radial direction relative to the optical axis of the semiconductor element and is, then, laser welded to the first section of the housing.

  • Patent number: 5073047
Abstract: An optical semiconductor module which is connected to an optical fiber to introduce light from an optical semiconductor element into the optical fiber. The module comprises a holder which holds the semiconductor element, a housing which has a rod lens positioned therein and to which the holder is connected by fitting engagement made between one end of the housing and one end of the holder such that the optical axis of the semiconductor element and the optical axis of the rod lens coincide with each other, and a receptacle to which the optical fiber is connected, the receptacle being connected to the other end of the housing adjustably within a plane which perpendicularly intersects the optical axis of the optical fiber such that light from the semiconductor element that passes through the rod lens enters the optical fiber.
