    Abstract: This invention relates to early detection of cancer by detecting methylated DNA in blood. In one embodiment, there is provided a method of predicting the occurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma in a subject, comprising the steps of preparing DNA samples from blood samples of the subject; and determining methylation status of a group of genes comprising RASSF1A, p16 and p15, wherein hypermethylation of these genes as compared to normal control samples indicates the subject is likely to develop hepatocellular carcinoma in the future.
