    Abstract: It is possible to, with a position measuring apparatus in a NC machine tool, a NC lathe, or the like that uses a load monitoring scheme, significantly reduce a response delay on the detecting jig side than those in the conventional apparatuses, and consequently measure the position of a measurement target with high accuracy. A measurement target (e.g., an advanceable and retractable center) is caused to abut a position detecting jig at the advanced end of the measurement target. In such a state, retracting and advancing motions of the measurement target are created to increase the load torque of a feed motor to a level sufficiently higher than the load torque that is detectable by the apparatus. After that, the abutment state between the measurement target (center) and the jig is canceled to cause a sudden drop in the load torque of the feed motor.

    Abstract: A correction jig is used when installing a resin combustion gas seal in an annular installation groove of a nozzle portion of an injector. The installation groove has an increased diameter portion in a section closer to a body of the injector. When the nozzle portion is caused to pass through the combustion gas seal from a distal end of the nozzle portion to arrange the combustion gas seal at the installation groove, the correction jig receives the combustion gas seal so that the combustion gas seal is prevented from interfering with the increased diameter portion. Thereafter, the correction jig is moved relative to the injector to correct an outer diameter of the combustion gas seal. As a result, the combustion gas seal is optimally installed in the installation groove.

    Abstract: An injector for directly injecting fuel into a cylinder of an internal combustion engine having a socket. The injector is provided with a nozzle insertable into the socket. An annular gap is defined between the nozzle and the socket when the nozzle is received in the socket. A first seal groove, formed in the nozzle, receives a first gas seal that seals the annular gap. A second seal groove, formed in the nozzle, receives a second gas seal that seals the annular gap. The second seal groove is formed closer to the distal end of the nozzle than the first seal groove. The depth of the second seal groove is greater than that of the first seal groove. This structure prevents the formation of deposits and maintains the sealing capability of the gas seals without lowering installation and maintenance efficiency.

    Abstract: An oil tight type chain tensioner applies tension to a chain used in an engine. The tensioner includes a housing, in which oil is sealed, and a reciprocating rod extending from the interior of the housing to the exterior for pressing the chain. An oil seal is located between the outer circumferential surface of the rod and the inner circumferential surface of the housing. A reservoir for retaining the oil is communicated with the interior of the housing. This structure permits the oil to flow between the interior of the housing and the reservoir in correspondence with the reciprocation of the rod. The reservoir has a hole for permitting air communication from the interior of the reservoir to the exterior but restricting an oil flow from the exterior of the reservoir to the interior.

    Abstract: A pin and an oil hole are modeled in an X, Y, and Z space (a three-dimensional coordinate system). Then, the model is cut with a plane which passes through a central axis of the hole and which includes a line normal to a tangent of the pin at a point at which the central axis of the oil hole and the surface of the pin (cylindrical surface) intersect. By this operation, shapes of the pin and the oil hole are recognized in two dimensions. Following this, a point of a chamfering drill is made to overlap the pin and the oil hole on a plane. Since a shape of the chamfering drill is already known, dimensions of a chamfered portion when viewed on said plane can be determined geometrically. Then, chamfering is performed with the chamfering drill kept at such an angle of inclination that desired dimensions of chamfer can be obtained on said plane.
