  • Patent number: 5030991
Abstract: An electronic copying machine according to the present invention has a copying unit for forming images on paper sheets and then discharging them, and a resupply unit for resupplying the same paper sheets to the copying unit, for other images to be formed on the sheets. The resupply unit has a pull-out unit which can readily removed therefrom, and the copying unit has a jam sensor for detecting that a paper sheet is jammed between the copying unit and the pull-out unit. When the jam sensor detects the jamming of a paper sheet when the copying machine is in overlap copying mode, the jammed paper sheet is forcedly discharged from the resupply unit. Alternatively, when the jam sensor detects the jamming of a paper sheet when the copying machine is in double-sided copying mode, the jammed paper sheet is forcedly pulled into the resupply unit.

  • Patent number: 4624546
Abstract: A copying or printing machine comprising a microcomputer, a memory having a sequence control program for accomplishing copying or printing operation, and a processing unit operative for reproducing a copy. The copying machine is provided with a delivering device for delivering the copy, a sorter for sorting successive copies delivered from the delivering device and a jam detector for detecting a jamming of a copy in the sorter. The delivering device is covered with a cover which may be opened so that an operator may access the delivery device. When a malfunction in the sorter is detected by the jam detector, the microcomputer stops the operation of the copying machine. It is necesary for the operator to remove the copy detected by the jam detector and to close the cover after opening it once for restarting the operation of the copying machine. The microcomputer enables the copying machine to restart after it detects that the copy detected by the jam detector is cleared and the cover is closed.

  • Patent number: 4618245
Abstract: A copying or printing machine connected with an attachment such as a sorter, including a microcomputer for controlling a copying or printing operation, a power supply for energizing the machine, and a power reducing device for reducing electric power to be supplied to a copy fixing device of the machine by the power supply so that less electric power is consumed than during operation. The microcomputer keeps the attachment in an inactive status, provided that the power reducing device reduces electric power to be supplied to the copy fixing device.

  • Patent number: 4611903
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an original document transfer section for transferring a document to a predetermined position, a scanning section for scanning the document, an image forming section and a control device for controlling the functional sections. The control device energizes the exposure lamp in the scanning section at a predetermined time, before the document reaches a predetermined position, and starts the movement of the exposure lamp toward the start position of the effective scanning operation.

  • Patent number: 4564792
Abstract: A document feeder, which is swingably arranged on a copying machine, which senses the position of the document on the copying table of the machine. When the document has travelled a predetermined distance, as monitored by a plurality of Hall effect sensors arranged on the motor which operates the document feeder, the motion of the document is terminated and the copying sequence begun. A special control circuit calculates the distance that the document has moved in response to the signals received from Hall sensors arranged at half slot intervals on the motor. The motion of the document is thereby stopped when it has moved a predetermined distance.

  • Patent number: 4557589
Abstract: In a sorting apparatus which is mechanically coupled to, but electrically independently operated from a copying machine, the sorting operation is realized. A copy delivery time interval between a front end of a first copy and a front end of a second copy is measured and stored with an addition of a tolerance time in a memory. Such a measurement is repeated for the succeeding copies. During the measurement if the time interval exceeds a predetermined basic time longer than the time interval, the sorting apparatus recognizes that the original document was substituted by new one. Then the storing way in the sorting apparatus is changed to receive copies of the new original document.
